Erica | 1309 comments I’m on my way out of a slump. I just stopped forcing myself to read and finish books. Then when I felt like reading I reread a favourite series. Rereading insures you will enjoy a book. Hope you guys find your way out soon.

So far I've read only 9 books this month. Maybe because in July I read more than usually. I'm not really in a slump, I just have a new game to play lol

For you, what is a comfort read? Is it a genre or a specific author?

Can be both for me.

message 265: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments In this case it was both a favourite SFF series by my favourite author Ilona Andrews. Generally it’s SFF series or YA fantasy that are the most comforting/easy genres for me.

I am also not being able to read much, my mood is fluctuating more than usual and sometimes I want to read something but at other times, I feel out of it..I haven't been able to complete many books I had started last month, and I am not sure why.

message 267: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments @Rushali that’s what I was like all July. Taking a break from reading and enjoying other things I like helped. Also letting go of the books I was reading and being okay not finishing them helped.

You are right Erica. I have been on and off reading since some time now so I have been trying to do other things I like. However I struggle with letting go of books, I feel compelled to finish them someday...I only DNF when I can't tolerate the book at all 😅

Hope you are reading better now!

message 269: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments Well my currently reading shelf says I’m reading 15 things… so I don’t know what you mean about being compelled to finish a book you start. ;)

The Wanderer | 44 comments Hello everyone, how is your reading this month?

message 281: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 1284 comments Hi Wanderer. My reading is good. For another group I'm reading romance (comfort zone) and science fiction (out of comfort zone). It actually was not that hard to find some science fiction books that are closer to fantasy so that helped and made it easier.

How is your reading?

I haven't been reading much so came here for motivation:) How is science fiction? It will be out of comfort zone for me as well

It was good. The plot and twists were really good. My only grouse is that Agatha Christie books have a simple language. I tend to enjoy elegant or complex language books a bit more. It doesn't mean I understand everything I read though.

Science fiction has many topics to choose from. Select a subject that interests you. I am generally more interested in medical/forensic science fiction and anything related to palaentology, archaeology, biology, biotechnology etc.

I'm reading a lot and am ahead of schedule. What helps me when I'm in a reading flunk is to read a book from an author I like.

The ones I've read are more fantasy than science fiction. I've read the mistborn series for it book 4-7. It was listed as steam punk, which is apparently part of science fiction

Other science fiction related books I'm planning to read:
Time Travel - This Time Tomorrow
Science Fiction - Upgrade

That's what I did. I have chosen time travel, steam punk and science fiction. I rarely read science fiction books.

@lusie I'm usually a random reader so no schedule to keep upto but I'd like to read more continuously. It's good that you're reading as per plan!

It's not really a set plan. I've planned just a few books. Most what I read is random as well. I don't like planning everything I want to read, but planning just a few keeps it fun.
