The Mystery, Crime, and Thriller Group discussion

Hi everyone, I'm a big fan of murder mysteries, and was hoping someone out there could help me with finding a book? I read a book last summer on holiday, and would love to reread it again but have completely forgotten the author and title! It was a murder mystery set on an British overseas island (possibly based on Ascension island). It linked a murder of a female teacher in London to a historical case on the island via money laundering. I also remember some of the action took place on the cruise from the mainland and also there were flashback involving: mysterious noises on the moorland, childhood memories of witnessing a crime scene involving a party that went wrong and murders of women and a memory him as a child only having one tv channel to watch at the time on repeat. I know this sounds like an odd ramshackle list haha but it's really bugging me. I thought it was a great book and was just wondering if anyone recognised any of this? Would be a great help :) TIA
