Here's the thread for Norse Mythology discussion."

I'll join when I'm done with the current read.

You can check out audio from the library? That's so cool! How does it work?

The Libby app let's you borrow audiobooks from your library. You can also borrow books on CD from most libraries, but libby is easier.

message 555: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments @Olga, your library may lease audiobooks from content providers such as Libby/Overdrive and hoopla. You have to have an account with both the library and the content provider, and link those accounts. Then you can borrow audiobooks and other digital content.

Or, as Ryan said, some audiobooks might be available on CDs and would be checked out just like a physical book.

message 556: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments Of course, it depends on where you (or choice good friends) are located. If in the US, Canada or the UK, not sure about Australia or another places, this is easy. All libraries have Libby/overdrive and or hoopla.

message 557: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2003 comments Anybody up for Nona the Ninth? After my second reading of Gideon and Harrow, I'm fired up to read the next one.

Release date is September 13. I propose October 10 as a start date, to give folks who are interested time to secure a copy.

A sneak preview of the book with its first handful of chapters is available here.

message 558: by Banshee (new)

Banshee (bansheethecat) | 206 comments I will definitely be reading Nona the Ninth. I'll start as soon as I have it in my hands, but I'll be getting my copy from Illumicrate and they give a very vague shipping date ("September/October"). So hopefully I'll be ready by October 10.

@Ryan, @Chris, I have serious doubts that it works the same in Russia, but will check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Message me on the groups discord if you need help. I'm sure being in Russia is no impediment to using and enjoying Libby.

Banshee (bansheethecat) | 206 comments Ryan wrote: "I'm sure being in Russia is no impediment to using and enjoying Libby."

Libby is Overdrive's app and Overdrive is present only in 12 countries (Canada, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore). So it's not possible to use Libby in Russia.

There might be some local solution for borrowing audiobooks, though - the local library should be able to provide this information.

message 564: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1745 comments Mod
For the sake of accuracy, it is possible to use Libby in Russia. Its just that Russian libraries don't participate in the scheme.

I don't want anyone thinking that travelling out of their country will render the app useless. You can take your ebooks on holiday!

I am planning to read Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow at the top of September. The book is highly recommended by a lot of people I trust and seems discussion worthy if any one wants to join in.

Oh crap- I forgot about it! Sarah, were we still going to read this? It's up to you. I've read it a gazillion times.

message 573: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3180 comments Ha- oh sheesh I had so much going on I forgot! Yes I still want to read it and I think I can grab it from my library. When is good for you Michelle?

message 574: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3180 comments Sorry- just saw Allison’s message- would next week work? Or the week after?

message 575: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3179 comments You two can decide; I'm pretty flexible.

message 576: by Caylah (new)

Caylah Coffeen | 1 comments Anyone interested in Harper, a dystopian YA mystery with a young female vigilante? I'd love to start around September 4th or in time to finish by the end of September to catch the author's live Instagram Q&A!

message 577: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3180 comments I'm going to put the buddy read thread up for Flesh and Spirit in case one of you has time to start. I still have to finish Nettle and Bone but that won't take me long and then I'll be jumping in. Please come join me whenever you can!

message 578: by Silvana (last edited Sep 07, 2022 05:43AM) (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments Anyone interested to buddy read Simon Jimenez's new book The Spear Cuts Through Water around the end of September (Sept 25?)

His The Vanished Birds is one of my ult fave novels in last five years.

message 579: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3180 comments Silvana I have the ARC I’ve been slowly going through (no fault of the book just me and a lack of time).

I’d love to at least join for discussion if by some miracle I finish before them.

Cool! I'll wait for another person to express interest and then I'll create a thread.

message 584: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3180 comments Is anyone interested in a queer, feminist retelling of Hamlet?

I stumbled across The King of Infinite Space at the B&N book haul last weekend and I’m just curious if anyone would be interested in a buddy read?

Looking at mid October for this one I think but could be persuaded to move it around if anyone wants to join.

message 585: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments The King of Infinite Space sounds fabulous! I'm adding it to my TBR, but I don't think I'd be a good buddy, not being a Shakespeare buff.

message 586: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1745 comments Mod
That's a great find, Schix! Added it to my tbr though I won't get round to reading it this year.

Ellen | 862 comments Not sure where to post this but was wondering if anyone is planning to read A Night in the Lonesome October this October?

message 589: by Aga (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Just chatting! I’ll do the links 😊

message 595: by [deleted user] (new)

Can someone confirm how this works? I see The Sword of Kaigen for October, 15th. Does that mean the buddy read starts on that date? Or is that when you should have finished the book?

Also, I'm looking for someone to buddy read The Sword of Kaigen with. haha. Thanks in advance.

message 596: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Sword of Kaigen is the official reread this month, so there should already be lots of "buddies" reading it right now. The 15th doesn't really mean anything, people might read it a month before that, or a month after. So just jump into the threads and start talking, and someone will join you! :)

Kaigen is also the VBC pick this month, if you're interested in chatting about the book on Zoom. More about VBC here: Virtual Book Club

I'm reading it now Traek! I'll say something in the thread so you can come talk to me ^^

message 598: by Mareike (new)

Mareike | 1457 comments Would anyone be interwsted in a BR of The House of Rust by Khadija Abdalla Bajaber in November or December?

It just won the Ursula K. Le Guin prize and I'd love to check it out and chat about it with people.

message 599: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments I’ve been wanting to read The House of Rust too - I have it on hold at the library, just waiting for it to be transferred over.

message 600: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3680 comments I would love to, but the library says 12 weeks. BUT I just looked and saw it’s on audio at Scribd, which is even better.
