Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments Anybody home? :D

Is there any interest to read The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler sometime next month?

Yes 🤩📚

message 704: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments Yay, Joelle! Do you have preference on the timing, like mid or end of the month?

message 705: by Joelle.P.S (new)

Joelle.P.S | 150 comments Silvana wrote: "Yay, Joelle! Do you have preference on the timing, like mid or end of the month?"

Hmm, I'm travelling next month so it's a little hard to predict brain availability. But the 2nd half of the month is probably more likely to have reading space than the 1st half. Thanks!

I'd love to join as well, I'm fine with anything this month or the next :)

message 707: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments Noted, Joelle, let's do third week of August then, 20 August as start date. I'll make a thread later.

And glad to have you with us, Tesseract :)

message 708: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3679 comments If I can get a copy from the library by then and read it, I will join you on The Mountain in the Sea.

message 709: by Rohit (new)

Rohit Dreamseer | 1 comments Anyone interested in reading The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne with me?

message 710: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Just started reading Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself. Anyone willing to jump in? It seems a kind of book that could be better when shared and discussed along the way.

message 711: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments I’ve been wanting to read it! Just have to find it.

message 712: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I got it free in Kindle Unlimited

message 713: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments I’ll look there since the library line is 26 holds deep.

message 714: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Let me know when you find it and we'll make a topic for BR.
Or maybe just resurrect the existing one? It's on the shelf, right?

message 715: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments Yes - sounds good to me. May be a bit later in the month.

message 716: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10433 comments Yep, it's on the shelf!

The Blade Itself >> First impressions | Final thoughts & More

message 717: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Thanks, Anna!

Sarah, see you in the First impressions thread?

message 718: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10433 comments You can also use the spoiler thread with spoiler tags if you want? I can add a "buffer" post and point you to it, so you can try to avoid spoilers. It's not 100% of course, but we used to do this with BRs of group books, so it's an option if you want it!

message 719: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Yes, just started writing some thoughts in First impressions and realised that it's not the right place ))) Wanted to just edit my previous post quietly before anyone's seen it, but it appears you are omnipresent and all-seeing ))
Thanks again for your help!

Thinking of reading The Giver in mid-December! Any other takers? I'm available starting Dec 11

I'm in! I just placed a hold on The Giver at my public library.

message 724: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Tentatively in - if can get the book from the library in time.

Allison Hurd | 14225 comments Mod
Sorry, I have got to get my sh--elf together. I now propose Giver starting around Dec 23? Does that work? Give folks the week between Old Nick and Auld Lang Syne for reading?

Looks like I'll also be reading The Lost Cause with another friend if anyone else wants in!

Cheryl L | 418 comments Allison wrote: "I now propose Giver starting around Dec 23? Does that work? Give folks the week between Old Nick and Auld Lang Syne for reading?"

Dystopian fiction over Christmas? I'm in!

I don't think I can squeeze in another book before the end of the year though. (Still have The Calculating Stars singing to me from my bedside table.)

message 727: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments My Giver is still pending in library, so totally fine with me.
The Lost Cause seems interesting, will try to join too.

Sarah | 3180 comments Not sure if I’d be better off campaigning in the Re-Reads folder or asking here. Looking to start The Dandelion Dynasty books next year (starts with The Grace of Kings). The later books in the series keep popping up in My bookish social media and I’d like to (slowly) work my way through them in 2024.

Anyone interested in buddy reading the first one with me? They are long so looking to take my time with these. Time frame is open- maybe late winter early spring?

Although the page count of the series is intimidating, I'm interested. The first book has been sitting on my TBR shelf begging for me to read it and I've heard good things about the series too.

message 730: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6127 comments I've read the whole series and applaud you for starting it. I think you'll enjoy the series (I did)

Cool! Hopefully we can gather a couple more takers. I didn’t want to propose the whole series because I figured that was intimidating, but maybe we can see how we feel after each book?

Do you have a specific time frame in mind?

message 732: by Rose (new)

Rose The Grace of Kings is on my TR list, I'd join a buddy read!

message 733: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (Nerdish.Maddog) (nerdishmaddog) | 115 comments Anytime from February on works for me. I have some ARCs to read in Jan. and then i am free to take my time reading what i want

Tesseract | 31 comments I'd love to hop in on a BR for The Grace of Kings too :)

message 737: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments I'd like to read it too. It didn't make it near the top tier in latest Re-read ballot.

We should probably use the existing threads, not start a separate BR one. First Impressions:

Sarah | 3180 comments Tesseract wrote: "I'd love to hop in on a BR for The Grace of Kings too :)"

Awesome! I’m going to arbitrarily pick a date of Feb 19th so Anna and Mods can add it to the schedule. I’ll try and remember to check in a couple weeks prior to see how we all feel about that date.

Really looking forward to this one!

That sounds good! If we decide to read any of the next books we can start a series thread.

message 740: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10433 comments The Grace of Kings >> First impressions | Final thoughts

If you're seriously planning to read the series, then we might as well start a series thread for it, so you can stay in one thread throughout and discuss properly with spoiler tags. I can start it with mod and add all the links, etc.

message 741: by Banshee (new)

Banshee (bansheethecat) | 206 comments I've wanted to start The Dandelion Dynasty for a while as well, so I'll probably join as well.

message 742: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments I just got an ARC for Sheine Lende (Elatsoe prequel) so if anyone wants to BR it sometime next year let me know!

message 743: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3679 comments Would love to Silvana, but I couldn’t find it listed on Netgally.

message 744: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2796 comments That is strange! Or maybe already archived. Well the publication is in late April so I could wait till after, no rush at all.

message 745: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3679 comments Actually I found it. I had searched under the title and even made sure I was spelling it right. Nothing. Then a search for Darcy Little Badger brought it up. Weird!! But also the Netgalley is available to read immediately.

message 746: by Cheryl L (new)

Cheryl L | 418 comments Sarah wrote: "Cool! Hopefully we can gather a couple more takers."

I've heard great things about Ken Liu but have not read any of his books. I'd like to give the series a go as a buddy read also.

message 747: by Kirsi (new)

Kirsi | 138 comments The Dandelion Dynasty is on my continue-at-some-point-TBR. I've read just the first one and think I might need a bit of a boost to pick up the second book... so I think I might join in if you guys decide to do the whole series.

message 748: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I read books one and two this summer and at first thought that I'd stop there, as the second book was too much for me in some aspects. But now, after some time I'm interested again in how the story ends. So, maybe I'll get cooked enough to continue by the time you get to book three. Will keep an eye on your thread.

I’ve been debating how to respond to this all day. 😂 looks like we have a good number of buddies interested in Book One at a minimum, some tentative interest in later books.

I am committing to the series at least, and it seems like others might want to join for later books,, so I’m going to say yes to the series thread.

let me know when would be the best time to BR then. maybe if we want more folks then we could wait until the publication date - some might miss the netgalley deadline.
