Hi

New user, not totally sure where to ask this. I was just wondering if there is any group or event out there on goodreads where people get together for live discussion/chatting via Zoom or another video chat app. I think it is easier to get to know others via video compared to tons of forum messages, esp in a group setting.

Hmm. Maybe. I'll think about it.

MK Whiting | 63 comments Not sure Goodreads would want to be affiliated because it does not fix the social metadata tracking model that they setup.

We are all experts with Zoom because of 2020.

Reminds me of something we used to do for work, Lunch and Learn.
We would gather on a call or in a conference room to learn something new and eat as we learned.

Helen Gould (helenclairegould) | 130 comments I'm in a local writers' group and we chat on Zoom once a month - just about writing mainly, either poetry or fiction. Such a group could be completely separate from Goodreads. MK, that sounds like a great thing as well.

Scott Coon | 66 comments I have a critique group currently meeting by Zoom. If you are in the LA area, living near Sherman Oaks, and you need a critique group that's currently active, check out Writers of Sherman Oaks on Meetup.com

We meet Thursday nights (but not New Years Eve). After its safe, we will return to in-person meetings in the Sherman Oaks area. This group is a successful group. You can see some of our success here:

Hi Phil - I am relatively new as well as raised the question, but never saw the good response you generated. I like the idea as it would make the feature of friends and groups more meaningful

Pat Spencer (pspencer) | 306 comments If you belong to a zoom book club, I would be happy to send one free copy of my international thriller. My hope is that you would read and recommend to your group for one of their reads. And (also hopefully) you would write a review on Amazon and Goodreads. You can learn more about me and my work at http://patspencer. net
Many thanks, pat

Hmm. I don't have a zoom membership but we could try a weekly new authors group in Skype or Microsoft teams or something if enough people are interested.

Pat Spencer (pspencer) | 306 comments Sounds interesting. I am a non-techie. How would we go about that? How would we find out if people are interested?

I would be open to that kind of group. Count me in.
