Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Thanks Pam, my aim of making more time to read is certainly paying off, and summer has only just started, now I have my indoor reading spot, it is easier to read when it is warm but windy, or in the autumn/winter when you get a sunny day but you can't sit out in it.

That's good

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, June is clearly a good month for me, another two finished this week, and about 70% into my bathroom book (which is a 3 in 1 collection, so over 500 pages). Showing as 6 books ahead, and still got over a week to go, next book is only 273 pages, so should definitely finish that.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another one finished and 85% into my bathroom book. Still 5 ahead and now over 10,000 pages, so sure I can do another 5,000 in the second half of the year. Tthis weeks books was Dead Letter Drop - this was the first book Peter James had published and published the year I was born, but it doesn't live up to his Grace series, or his later standalone books. Now reading Look For Me, 20% in and enjoying.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Never really got into Peter James though I have thought of trying one. They turn up in charity shops quite a lot but I'm trying to get rid of books at the mo, and also have been reading some that have been unread on my Kindle for years!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I wouldn't recommend that if you've never read any of his, I'd either start the Grace series or Perfect People

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Huh, I forgot to put my last update on here, will have to go and find it! This is this weeks

Finished Rebecca yesterday, think I'm going to give 3.5, but round up to 4*, I struggled with the beginning when it swapped times, and then didn't enjoy the ending, I had to look it up to understand it. The middle bit I enjoyed enough to find it hard to put down, hence rounding up.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Last weeks: Finished Look For Me, quite enjoyed it, and St Clare's Collection 1: Books 1-3 - I never really got into St Clare's as a child, and have to say, not as enjoyable as Mallory Towers. Then read Death du Jour which I wasn't looking forward to, as I didn't like the first due to the differences between the book and TV show, but managed to read the second as I pretended they weren't connected, so can read the others, but won't buy any more. Classics this month, I picked an Agatha Christie collection for my bathroom book, not realising it was nearly 1k pages!! Started Rebecca yesterday

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I finished another book today and was 9 ahead, so I decided to increase my target by another 5, am still 6 books ahead. I thought I was going to struggle with my nearly 1k page book, but I've read nearly that in the first half of the month, so should be able to in the second, am 29% in and nice weather forecast all week (although realised the downside of indoor reading spot today, the temp increase through the window - the phone said the outdoor temp was 27, the alarm clock said the indoor temp was 42!!). I did enjoy The Thirteenth Tale, I have seen the dramatization of it.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Wow! That's hot. Had to sit in a shady spot in the garden today.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Yes, no wonder I was sweating and had to sit in the shade for a while, not like me!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments 2 finished this weekend, yesterday I finished Hercule Poirot: The Complete Short Stories and today read More William not often I read a book in a day, but not often I read books less than 200 pages! Still a week left of classics month and not sure what to read next. Glad I increased my book target, I'm still 7 ahead!

Love Poirot - must read more! Well done on your progress.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another book finished, couldn't quite finish all 6 classics in one month, but as my 5.3 books total 2381 pages, and the 928 page could really be 2/3 books, I'm more than happy with that. Read a Margery Allingham book, never read any of hers, and won't be in a rush to buy/read any more. It's new book day today, unfortunately it didn't work till about an hour ago, so not had chance to see how many I'm interested in and whether I'm going over budget again!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another one finished Westwind - an enjoyable read, you can tell it was written way before the Rebus books, it's not quite at the same standard. 76% into Coffin Road - I do really enjoy Peter May, and books set in Scotland

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Actually, finished Peter May as well!

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Great progress. I'm keeping up too so all is well on the book front.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another one finished Sleeping Beauties - I didn't think I'd finish it today as there were still a few hours and I wasn't sure I was enjoying it enough to read that much in one go, but it picked up a bit, but not enough for me to give it 4*, I was a bit disappointed with the ending. And just realised I've hit my page count! Still 4 months to go as well.

message 70: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Good progress. Shame the book was a bit of a let down - I've had quite a few of those this year!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments 2 more books read in August, making a total of 5, which isn't bad to say one was over 700 pages! Read 1.5 so far in Sept, which is female author month, so that is my 12+4 technically finished, although I aim to read all 16. Am contemplating increasing my target again, as I'm 75% through one book and 50% through another, so could be at 41 out of 45 this week, and the way I'm whizzing through, could hit that this month!

One of the neighbours came round on Thu, his daughter has finally got round to clearing out some of her stuff, he binned about 100 books before realising that I like reading, so I've taken the other 4 boxes off him, he said any I don't want he'll take to the tip but I told him that was sacrilege and like me binning wine (he's a big drinker!), and I'll take them to the charity shop instead. I noticed some that a colleague is collecting, so will take them in work for her. It may well be the only time the 50 Shades trilogy is in my house, but even they don't deserve to be binned.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another 3 finished, I've officially finished my 12+4, and read my 2 PIFM books, so now going to have to figure out what else to read for the rest of the month! Would be great if I could keep this momentum up when the weather turns, as I watch more TV in the autumn/winter, and I do wonder if friends think I'm getting antisocial, never mind the state of the house sometimes! But I'm really enjoying it, but might have to increase my PIFM next month! I also increased my target again to 50, I'm currently 8 ahead and only need to read 8 more

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments You're motoring Desley!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I am Pam, really hoping I can keep it up - still not reading as many as I'm buying though!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, a lot read since the last update, the only positive of 5 days of fatigue after my 3rd Covid jab is that I've read 2 books! I've also just noticed that I've had my best page count since 2012, clearly an advantage of reading 3 900+ page books! I think I might manage to squeeze one more book in before the end of the month too. However, I may have been naughty at buying books, the local library have a 10p sale on, I went with the intentions of buying books for colleague, and came back with 6, but I had a sore arm from my Covid jab, and some books were double stacked, so I'm going back tomorrow, really want some new Stephen King books. I seem to have bought a few kindle books too, a couple of big deals on authors I owned quite a few of the series, so they are now complete, and I treated myself to 2 today, as I've barely done anything this weekend.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Another book finished in September, making it my best month with 7 read, and not all short either. I also finished a series, which was a bit bittersweet, although she has done a spin off from it, so might need to investigate that! October is the first month that I haven't hit my book allowance, so contemplating if I can justify £2.99 on a kindle book, although to be fair, thanks to the library book sale, I did buy 13 paperbacks in Sept, for the grand total of £1.30! October is Serial Eyes, so the Wire in the Blood series for the whole of the month, then going to do continuing series for Nov, as I'm away for a few days, and standalone in Dec to catch up on anything.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Wow, that's a lot of reading Desley. And buying! But I admit if they are that cheap they are very hard to resist.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Yes, I am doing really well, even if sometimes it is at the expense of eating, housework and talking to friends! 10p a book and it helped the library out!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Oh, thought I was only coming to update that I've read 2 books, but according to the tracker, I've read 3 since I last updated! Not quite sure how that happened. Only 2 left to read this year, way over my page count, technically finished my 12 + 4 and kind of on track with my colour challenge, so quite happy.

message 80: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Wooo.... nearing the finish line. Are you planning to add any?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I have considered if I can add another 5, bearing in mind I am away for a few days next month, so may get more reading done, I loaded 5 on my kindle yesterday and wondered if that was enough!

message 82: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Still debating - November will be so busy and then there is Christmas looming. So it all depends on whether I'm definitely going to finish the 100 well before year's end.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I did increase mine by 5, and now struggling to get into my book! Oh well, I have a hair app next weekend then I'm away for 4.5 days, I've now realised that just because I'm staying in someone's house, it's still a holiday and if I want to lie on the sofa reading all day, I can!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, continuing series month was a bit disappointing with only 3 read, although they were nearly 1,500 pages! Looking forward to continuing series, and I'm away for a few days, so hopefully that will be productive reading time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Finished the Kane and Abel trilogy yesterday, while I did really enjoy the first one, the other two weren't that good. Hopefully without spoiling it, the second was a major rehash of the first, and the third was altered to become the third book, but it didn't work for me.

message 86: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments That's a shame Desley. I've had quite a few duds myself this year too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments So, two more finished since my last update, really slowing down now. But, only one left to read and way over my page count, so pleased with that.

message 88: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Well done Desley. I have four more to complete my extended challenge so glad I didn't add more than another five books. As I'm reading through my own book doing yet another edit and I never count that, I have a job to fit in other reading.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments So, I've hit my book target, over my page target and completed my 12+6, so very happy. Admittedly, I've read 1.5 books this month and bought 12, maybe next year my self control will return!

message 90: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Congratulations Desley, yipee!!

Hoping to join you soon - have another four books to go......

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Thanks Pam - to think I started the year off thinking I'd only read 30!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments So, end of year update. Very pleased with this year's reading, I've hit my targets (and had to increase my target 3 times), even reading 3 books over 900 pages. Only just hit the colour challenge and have decided to give up on the Motley Challenge. Think my only regret is not reading more in my serial eyes month, they were harder reads than I expected. I'm definitely going to keep up with making more time to read, I've enjoyed getting back into reading.

message 93: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Glad you've had a good reading experience Desley and am getting back into it. I've had some good reads this year too and was happy to finally complete my extended challenge yesterday.
