Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments I was disappointed in the latest novel from Nora Roberts, Legacy. I think it tried to be too many things and failed.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them is just what it says it is. Francine Prose is a highly regarded literary authority who knows her stuff, but isn't stuffy. She also knows how to poke fun at herself.

Andrea | 2164 comments Diving for Pearls is the debut novel for Irish writer Jamie O’Connell. His version of Dubai is realistically vivid, but one most tourists would not recognise.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments The narrator always makes a big difference to how enjoyable an audio book is. Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood and Jerome Pride are the perfect fit for Two Steps Onward, the follow up to Two Steps Forward, by Anne Buist and Graeme Simsion.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments While Suzanne McCourt's second novel, The Tulip Tree is a beautifully written story of what a certain Polish family endures through the first half of the 20th Century, it just didn't grab me. Maybe I'm suffering from historical fiction overload fatigue.

For me it is what the HF book is about. I am totally over books set in WW2 and anything to do with persecuting witches but I can read any stories set in for example Regency England and further back.

Yes, Phrynne, I'm over war and persecution. I think it was the mention in the blurb of the Snowy Mountains Scheme 1953 that drew me in, but that only took up the last six pages...

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Aussie author Sophie Green's third novel, Thursdays at Orange Blossom House (what a gorgeous cover!) is out 28th July, and l can assure fans they will not be disappointed. Going back to these characters and their stories each time I opened the book was like a much-needed hug, or a blanket on a cold day: pure comfort.
