Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished The Emporium of Imagination by Tabitha Bird by Tabitha BirdAA and it was lovely! A magical realism story set in Boonah QLD (a totally off centre setting for such a book, one would think) which does totally enchant the reader. I thoroughly recommend it to all and sundry.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments The Last Time She Died is the first book I have read by British author, Zoë Sharp and I am really glad this is the first book of a series: the characters, the plot, the setting, all contributed to make this brilliant British crime fiction. Very much looking forward to #2.

Sarah | 1543 comments Here's my review of April in Spain by John Banville, the 8th in his Quirke series, but the first published under his own name (the previous titles have been marketed under his pseudonym Benjamin Black). This book also features D.I. St. John Strafford from Snow.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I do like a short story. Alexander McCall Smith has written a collection of stories inspired by early 20th-century photos, including the title story Pianos and Flowers: Brief Encounters of the Romantic Kind. I especially loved Blackmail!

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments What is it about kids and bottoms?! A Brief History of Underpants by Christine Van Zandt uses plays on words ("brief" history) and cartoons by Harry Briggs to tell interesting "back" stories from ancient times to the space age.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Graeme Macrae Burnet is such a clever author! I really didn't expect to be laughing out loud on the last page of his latest thought-provoking novel, Case Study. Utterly brilliant!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments For audiobooks, the choice of narrator is critical, so I'm pleased to say that whoever chose Taylor Owynns for Sandie Docker's wonderful 4th novel, The Wattle Island Book Club, got it exactly right.
