Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Because the third book in Robert Dugoni's Charles Jenkins series is coming out in February, I thought I'd better get up to speed and read the first two. The Eighth Sister is excellent Dugoni spy drama.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Tim Winton is one of Australia's best and most-awarded authors and an all-time favourite of mine. An Open Swimmer was his first novel, written when he was still at uni, and his writing was already magic. I had some trouble with the story.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Stephen King is known for his horror thrillers, but this is just a good story about a ghost, stranded in the Horror House of the amusement park, Joyland. It's just what I felt like reading!

Carolyn | 9840 comments I really enjoyed Hannah Kent's new historical novel Devotion by Hannah Kent Devotion.

Partly because it's based on the actual story of how whole communities of Lutherans emigrated to the Barossa from Prussia in the nineteenth century, but also because her writing is always so poetic and she writes about relationships so well.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Just finished Only Daughter by Anna SnoekstraAA set in Canberra (I needed another book set in the ACT for a challenge).

A decent little thriller which I enjoyed, though I was less impressed by the publisher, Harlequin books.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Hannah Kent's writing is so beautiful, I found it difficult to limit myself to just a few quotes in my review of her latest novel, a wonderful tale of love and grief and steadfastness, Devotion.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Honestly this is the strangest book I've encountered in my life and 3 stars doesn't seem right for it at all but I can't decide if I love or loathe it!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments I really enjoyed the e-book version of the first in Zoë Sharp's new Blake & Byron Thrillers series, The Last Time She Died, so I grabbed the opportunity for a reprise in audio. Tamsin Kennard does a brilliant job of narrating this excellent British crime novel.
