Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Tracy Mann is the perfect narrator for Fiona Higgins's second novel, Wife on the Run. Prospective readers should be aware there is some explicit sexual description and expletives associated with a certain character, but there is also plenty of humour in this thought-provoking, topical read.

Carolyn | 9840 comments My review of A Line To Kill (Hawthorne and Horowitz Mystery, #3) by Anthony Horowitz A Line To Kill by Anthony Horowitz, a very entertaining murder mystery where Horowitz again plays himself in his own book.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments The Way it is Now, the latest stand-alone by Garry Disher, is yet again proof that he is the master of the Australian crime fiction genre. The Mornington Peninsula setting is expertly conveyed (no wonder!) in this superlative page-turner. Out November 2nd.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Aussie author Julie Holland's debut novel may have a mature protagonist a la Liz Byrski, but is likely to have a wide appeal. Her depiction of the Queensland coastal town is faultless.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments The audio version of this collection of 36 Maeve Binchy short stories, Chestnut Street, is read by Kate Binchy, so there's the added bonus of that wonderful Irish accent. It is a bit of a mixed bag: most of the stories are true Maeve Binchy diamonds; a few, those that feel unfinished, are just stones.

Jac Buchanan (jacbuchanan) | 10 comments I recently used a power failure to finish reading some favourites. Particularly, Hobb is a useful study for writers wanting to write old-world fantasy.

Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad, #1) by David Eddings Pawn of Prophecy is an oldie but a goodie. I have concerns for this as a YA read, and encourage parental oversight and discussion on a particularly controversial aspect. My adult eyes, on the other hand, were delighted at the inclusion of Eddings's Cherokee heritage.

Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb Robin Hobb is a delightful writer. So while her editing team let her down on this occassion, I continue to recommend her work.
