Andrea | 2164 comments Fortune by AA Lenny Bartulin really took me by surprise! It was historical fiction, but with a real freshness in the delivery that I found exciting.

What an uncanny coincidence Andrea. I was in my local library this afternoon, and my eye was drawn to the vivid colours and design of the cover of this book, on the display shelf. As I already had chosen some new books, I decided not to borrow it. But I'll definitely be reading it sometime soon, after the enticement of your review.

The cover is stunning!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments All Maggie O'Farrell's books are winners for me but when I read the print version of This Must Be the Place, I don't remember laughing, or crying, quite so much as when Sean Barrett read it to me. And I was surprised to find that, after a while, I no longer noticed whether Barrett's gravelly voice was appropriate for female and children's parts.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished an ARC from the wonderful A&U

What Could Be Saved by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz

It was a cracker of a mystery/thrill Thai inspired book which completely exceeded my expectations.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Harlan Coben's new series, Winsdor Horne Lockwood III, might not be the best place to start when I'm a Coben novice, but I found that with Win it didn't matter all that much that I haven't read a single Myron Bolitar book. Definitely an entertaining read, and I'll have my hand up for #2 in this series.

Lucy Newlinds (lucy_newlinds) | 10 comments My 3 star review for Who Owns History?: Elgin’s Loot and the Case for Returning Plundered Treasure by Geoffrey Robertson.

Who Owns History?: Elgin’s Loot and the Case for Returning Plundered Treasure Who Owns History?: Elgin’s Loot and the Case for Returning Plundered Treasure by Geoffrey Robertson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Geoffrey Robertson makes a passionate case for the return of stolen cultural objects. Robertson has a way of writing legal theory that is very accessible and dissects the arguments for and against reuniting the Parthenon Frieze and returning the 'Elgin Marbles' from the British Museum to Greece in a very methodical way. Robertson also briefly touches on the cases for the return of the Benin Bronzes, Rosetta Stone, the Gweagal Shield and the Bust of Nefertiti.

I enjoyed expanding my knowledge around the circumstances of how the British Museum 'acquired' the Elgin Marbles, I also enjoyed Robertson's critic of European Museums and Government for their hypocritical approach to 'Nazi Loot' versus artefacts stolen during periods of colonialism.

I don't think this will 'tip the scales' or change anyones mind. However, if you want to deepen your understanding and get into the weeds of the current legal arguments surrounding the return of cultural objects, I would highly recommend this book.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments If the idea of Lizzie Bennet as an amateur sleuth appeals, then Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price might fit the bill. Mine was a voicegalley, so the narration is a bit weird, but still quite an entertaining read.

Andrea | 2164 comments I rarely re-read books these days, but made an exception for the audio version of Love After Love by Ingrid Persaud. Narrated by the author, the audio edition brings Trinidad to life. It was one of my favourite books of 2020, and will be again this year!
