There are people who look for any reason to look down on IR and AA romance, and when they get a hold of a book filled with grammar/spelling mistakes, it just reinforces their belief that the entire genre is substandard.
It IS unfair that authors of color are held to a higher standard by both industry and readers, but that's just facts. It's also a fact that some readers who already have negative preconceived notions of what an IR/AA book is about will just have their biases confirmed should they read a badly edited work. And yes, many of these same readers will give a non-AOC book a pass for despite having just as many - if not more - than the book written by an author of color. This is reality and it's one that authors of color are doing everything to combat. People who didn't like Angie Thomas' "The Hate U Give" found petty ways to one-star their reviews based on nothing more than there was no white savior.

Isadora I specificly said most of my biggest critique are non-Black authors trying to mimic Blackness messing up the genre. That is the big elephant in the room. Hence all these "White Billionaire Step Brother Shifter" Books. I am going to drag that, every time I see. Sorry Not Sorry. The Kindle Unlimited gold rusher are a bigger problem for IR for the reason I mentioned in my previous post

It got hit hard with the book stuffing, Tiffany-gate scammers. All romance was flooded with that stuff, but because there were so few authors in this small niche, the scammers have outnumbered the legitimate ones at this point..."
I actually mod a midsize general romance group that like Interracial Romance, a few of #TiffanyGate authors writing in the subgenre we feature. But no one in my group was hyped about any of them. Yet at the very moment all that stuff about Chance Carter blew up one of my IR book buddies had rec'd

If the book is good, I will look for more books by that author. THere are so many books out there and so little free time to read so im pretty strict.

Can you recommend any dark romcoms?

I think with IR and me it can boil down to desperation. There are some authors whose names have stuck out over the years that I will never give a second chance to. Latrivia Nelson turned me off so bad that I NEVER read another thing by her and never will.
But in whats still almost a fledgling genre in terms of mainstream offerings, I can't always choose to be picky. I do have some things that are an immediate no for me. I actually agree with Arch about the money titles. To me that speaks to an inexperienced author who still thinks theres a fetish type draw to interracial relationships. ie, someone can only be dating a white man if he's going to elevate them in life and a white man will only be dating a black woman because he just finds her too hot and such an "exotic beauty" that he can't resist. I can't.
But if the book is borderline and I can say I would have liked it if a few things had not been present or would have been different, I'll keep giving them a go a few times.

I give new authors 2 chances if the issues are not egregious. If they repeat the same issues that annoy me by the 2nd book, then I am done.
