FYI, finished reading The Death and Life of the Great Lakes. Really excellent, poignant exploration of the way we disrupted the inland seas that hold 20% of the world's freshwater by "re-engineering" them to connect disparate water systems, enable shipping, and make them more "tourist-friendly" for sport fishermen. The devastation wrought by invasive species like the zebra and quagga mussels, alewives, lampreys, etc., is painful to contemplate... but the book does offer cause for optimism in the end. The Great Lakes may never be the same as they once were, but the author sees a path ahead where they can be restored to some semblance of health and vitality.
When the Water Wars start, I'm glad we live not too far from Lake Michigan. ;-)

The world around us (economic crisis, climate change, pandemic, war etc.) and the world inside us (loneliness, broken relationships, mental health) is crumbling. Why so? Who is responsible? What will it take humanity to survive and thrive in the tough times ahead? The book is an attempt to unearth answers to these questions.
