Hm...I wonder if other celebrities are available...I'd get GPS if Penelope Cruz's voice spoke to me...she'd make directions sound...enchanting...

Whose voice would you want to hear coming through your GPS?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Antonio Banderas, please.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Someone explain to me why he married Melanie Griffith.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments She's a witch and she put a spell on him? I really, really don't know, RA.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Javier Bardem or Liev Schreiber or Clive Owen. :)

Or Jim Dale. Or Rachel Weisz... I loooove her voice.

And you can laugh at me if it pleases you, but I'd also love one with Russell Crowe's voice (except that I'd never want to leave my car).

You're all wrong.

Morgan Freeman.

'Nuff said.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments But then I'd feel like Miss Daisy, Gus. I'm not THAT old!

message 8: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Lauren Bacall, please.

I'm with Jackie on this... I love Morgan Freeman's voice, but I'd be a little weirded out hearing it in a car.

Actually, I swear I'd heard that he already does (that's the only reason I didn't include him on my list).

:) You made me chuckle, Bun.

Matt | 819 comments "I'm altering your directions, BunWat, just pray that I don't alter them further."

message 13: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments You know, Buns mentioned arguing/ignoring with GPS directions...I've never used GPS directions before, so I wouldn't know how that works, but google directions have been not just wrong, but WAY wrong for me twice in the last year. And like a jackass I just kept following them. I should have used the map in the car.

Bad google directions landed me in Youngstown, Ohio this summer.

Shudders

message 14: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I've had some frustrating experiences with MapQuest or Google directions, as well as some instances of GPS. Hertz's Neverlost system is a pain to use sometimes, trying to have me drive on streets the wrong way or even on streets that are completely blocked off and obviously have been for years.

This past Monday, though, I used my daughter's Honda CRV to go get cupcakes in Georgetown, using the built-in nav system on the car. It was excellent, even through DC with all of it's traffic circles. And when you get ready to go back home, you just hit the ""Go Home" button and it reverses the directions. Cool.

message 15: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) We have your coordinates right here, Bun. We have you located very precisely, within +/- .5 meters. Oh no ... really ... we know where you are for real.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I believe in you, Bun. And your house.

:::nods solemnly:::

message 17: by RandomAnthony (last edited Sep 30, 2009 12:05PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I read once Neil Gaiman tried to find his house in rural Wisconsin on GPS and the device said something like, "The place you are seeking does not exist." If I remember correctly he thought that was really cool.

message 18: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments And by the way, how would anybody understand Bob Dylan's directions, anyway?

"Go right mumble mumble straight to mumble take a mumble mumble."

message 19: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments When I enter my friend's address on Google map and go to street view, I can see my car parked in front of their house. It's kinda weird to see.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments No, Dylan would say, "watch out for parking meters" way more than he needed to, I'm guessing.

Matt | 819 comments "There must be some kind of way out of here, said the joker to the thief..."

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Just imagine how the Dylan directions would go if you found yourself on Highway 61.

PS Not James Earl Jones, but we do have a fake-Darth Vader voice on ours. It gets irritating really fast, but it does say "Now entering hyperdrive" when you get on the highway, and "You have reached the dark side" when you get to your destination. There was also a Homer Simpson voice, which goes "Doh!" whenever you ignore it. I'm not sure what the Kim Cattrall voice does.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

How about the guy who did the voice on the tapes for Mission Impossible, or the guy who was Charlie for Charlie's Angels.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I would like the Computer from Star Trek to be the voice in my GPS. That would be cool!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments RIP Majel Barrett. No can do...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I know, Sarah. :(

Maybe someone could impersonate her...

message 27: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I figured you knew. :)
I was going to say something like "Would it have to say 'hull breach imminent' every time you opened the door?" but then I was a little afraid you might tell me that she never said that.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sure, she did! Good old Majel. She was there from the beginning...

message 29: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I don't recall her at all. She was very attractive.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Larry, you might remember her better as Nurse Chapel:

Or Lwaxana Troi:

message 31: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) *draws two blanks*

But thanks for trying, Jackie-o-Jackie.

message 32: by Lorna (new)

Lorna Antonio for me, please. Though I'd probably have trouble concentrating on my driving with his voice purring at me through the speaker...

message 33: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) He was so good in Shrek.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments oh brother. i can't stand bob dylan's voice

message 35: by Lorna (new)

Lorna He was good, wasnt he! Have you seen Desperado or Interview with the Vampire? He's brilliant in both of those.

Abigail (42stitches) | 150 comments My husband downloaded a few for the TomTom about a year ago. Our favorite Glados. You can't listen to her. She tells lies. Lol.

Bob Dylan is still alive?

I think that Heidi had the right idea with Rachel Weisz.

I love her voice, and I don't think I'd ever get tired of it or annoyed with it - it's confident and calming.

And British. I think most of us would enjoy a British accent more than any other.

Yah. Well there's that, too.

message 41: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Okay if we're going with British accents, I'll take CBS reporter Lara Logan.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments No, no, the Spanish accent works fine for me, thanks.

Hey, I made that joke all the way back in message 27! I guess I should have supplied my own rimshot.

message 50: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Positively 4th Street. Did anyone say that yet?
