My music knowledge is terrible... But I'll still try to guess.. Until then I'll try to hunt for books that fit the tasks!

And I have 3 books that fit in for the 11th task,ie,
31. Read a book with MPG Detective Fiction
32. Read a book with the word "air" in the title/series title
33. Read a book with a black & white cover
Is this is okay for black & white cover?

Yes to it being black and white!

My mind just blanks when I try to figure them out. Even though I'm a HUGE 80's music fan. LOL. But i'm going to keep trying to guess. xP

Ummm... I think it literally means black and white.
The Whisper Man has the names in a different color, so I won't be surprised if that doesn't work.
EDIT: Won't work. The Mods clearly said "Everything on cover must be black and white". Sorry! :=(

I'm excited though, even if I don't think I'll figure out any of the clues - I'm sure I'll say, Aaaah yes of course when I see the answers though :D
Can't we just put our guesses in the spreadsheet? Only the group members have access to it, correct?

Ohhhh!! How about this one then?

Will this work Apoorv? I can re-read this if it qualifies.

I think this should work. I literally don't see another color there, and if someone says its Grey, I'm going to fight them, LOL! :P

So, all of you should have a message in your inboxes from me regarding the Mini Challenge. Do take a look at it when you can and let's work from there.
Let me know if you didn't receive one or reach out for any questions.

I've jotted down some thoughts but I'm really only sure about the one with the twins. I hope you all know lots about music!

Yeah, I'm hoping that it'll work. Because I started the TV show a while back and it was pretty decent. People say the show is better than the book, which is crazy to think about, but I'd still like to check it out nonetheless.

Book: Layla
Author: Colleen Hoover
Pages: 301
Date: 3/09/21
UNO Cards it fits:

3. Author H: Hoover
6. Character: Sable
SKIP - Character: Kyle, Chad

Gosh, I hope not. The show started out really good but the last season was so terrible we didn't even finish it.
Another book that could work for this prompt is Inkheart if anyone wants to read some young adult fantasy. It's a pretty good series.
I'm going to take a look at all the clues today and see if I have any books that could work for the very specific ones.

Inkheart is a pretty decent book. I read it a very, VERY long time ago. I might be willing to give it a second read for this challenge.

Yes!

Would either of these work for the "white hat"?

How about this one for the leather jacket?

How about this one for the leather jacket?

"Beach Read" works for white hat, "Hamnet" doesn't.
I'm on the fence about "Storm Front" for the leather jacket, because I can't make it out as leather from the jacket cover. So, I will err towards no.

I'll read Beach Read for the white hat clue then!

I was going to keep this to finish for the mIni --Set in California--but it was a page turner towards the end. I have other M. Connelly LA set books TBR though, if no-one else can cover that clue.

Book: China Rich Girlfriend
Author: Kevin Kwan
Pages: 378
Date: 13 Mar 21
UNO Cards it fits:
0: Character Z - Zhang, Inspector
1: Character O - Oliver
2: Character T - Teo, Michael
3: Character H - Harry
4: Character F - Foo, Q.T.
5: Character I - Ivan
6: Location S - Shanghai
8: Character E - Eleanor
9: Character N - Nicholas
Skip: Author K/P - Kevin Kwan

But, the character doesn't have her hair permed hair/gets their hair permed 😕
What do I do? Does it still qualify... can we still use it for the mini challenge?

Also, my husband worked at a music store through college and can help figure out these songs. I already guessed a few.

Book: The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Author: Stephen Chbosky

Cover colour: green (mod approved)

The 500+ clue might be a better yet, if you're already reading one that is that long. The one set in CA is relatively easier to find and could squeeze in a shorter book for that.

But, the character doesn't have her hair permed hair/gets their hair permed 😕

Oooooo! This is interesting!
Finding the Meg Ryan hair reference is so rare, its amazing that you found it. But the main cue is about permed hair, so that I believe is primary requirement.
But save this book, maybe we can use it.
So stoked that you found the Meg Ryan reference.
EDIT: So, I found two books too which reference MR, but nothing about the word perm. One of the book describes it though without using the actual word. Hmm!

Also, my husband worked at a music store through college and can help figure out these songs. I already guess..."
We are reading 45 books! One per task.
The tasks are just clubbed into groups for 3 to lead us to a clue about the singer/song which, if guessed correctly, are bonus points.

But, the character doesn't have her hair permed hair/gets their hair permed 😕
What do..."
I just realised that we can use the book for another task! So even if it doesn't work for the MR reference, it still works out for the Mini Challenge :)

I'm also reading with an eye out for permed hair.

I already know 10 of them. Yay!

Mini Challenge
36. Read a book with MPG Travel
This book was nonfiction so I assume we can't use people the author quotes from their letters or writing eg Vincent Van Gogh

Book: Eric
Author: Terry Pratchett
Pages: 155
Date: 14 March 2021
Cards:
2: Author T - Terry Pratchett
7: Character V - Vassenego
8: Character E - Eric / Title E - Eric
9: #9 in the Discworld series
Skip: Author P - Pratchett, Terry
Mini challenge:
2 - character is a wizard / sorcerer
Could also count for 35 - at least two men on the cover.

It's got mythology as one of its shelves but not the top shelf. And I can't check the MPG as I've only got it on kindle and it has no genres on the copyright page. Or does it count if it's one of the main genres on goodreads?
I've added the books I'm going to read for the mini challenge to the team spreadsheet; for one of them that Paris read in February I just copied all of her notes into my row, I haven't started reading it yet but I assume it's all correct :)
Apoorv wrote: "EDIT: So, I found two books too which reference MR, but nothing about the word perm. One of the book describes it though without using the actual word. Hmm!"
Well surely that counts, right!

------------------
Task 23 (a character with permed hair/a character getting their hair permed) gets you 10 points.
The Meg Ryan hair reference will be accepted as an "extra" in any of the books you use for the mini challenge, whether it's for the permed hair or some other task, for that you get 5 bonus points "only".
-------------------------
So, permed hair is the primary task. Meg Ryan reference in any other book can get us the added 5 points.

Yes, I specifically remember Prometheus, Hermes, and Athena. If you're thinking about reading it, go for it. I loved it but I love Greek mythology. I taught Odysseus when I was teaching and that brought back fond memories. It's one of the stories most students liked with Polyphemus (the Cyclops), Scylla and Charybdis other monsters. LOL
