Karis | 132 comments I wish I could pip up and say that you aren't the only one, A'laura, but I'm home schooled too :)

I really do think the majority of us are, which I think is kinda neat, a home schooled, Christian author with awesome books and a fan group of Christian girls most of which are homeschooled. What could be better!

message 1702: by Stargazer (new)

Stargazer R. L. | 576 comments @Karis: Because I guess the Ilyon Chronicles are the most enjoyed by Christian girls most of which are homeschooled. XD But we don't want to make A'laura feel like an outsider, 'cause she's totally not. And we don't want people to think that they have to a) be a girl and b) be homeshooled to join this group because that's not true, it just happened that way. :P

@A'laura: That's not a problem, I was just curious if anyone was. :) So if any of us homeshooled girls start writing books about people in public schools, we'll ask you all about it! XD

message 1703: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments Oh, yes, of course, Stargazer. I'm not try to saying anything like that. It's just rare to find a group of girls like y'all who can relate as Christian girls (not that you have to be a girl to read the Ilyon Chronicles) and fellow book fans. Of course anybody is welcome. I've been trying to get my older brother to read the series for forever. I think I'm making a little progress, hopefully ;)

message 1704: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments Christian homeschoolers often specifically look for books by other Christian homeschoolers, thus potentially explaining why so many here are homeschooled. Christian public schoolers who also find these stellar books love them just as much.

I think it's awesome when Christian homeschoolers, Christian public schoolers, and Christian private schoolers fellowship together!

message 1705: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments I'm really pushing them in my house. I did get my younger sister to read them, which is personal success :)

message 1706: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments And it's definitely not just girls. :) I personally know three young men who LOVE Ilyon. :)

message 1707: by Stargazer (new)

Stargazer R. L. | 576 comments Annd I attempted to edit my comment and ended up deleting it. >.> oops.

That's awesome you got your sister to read them Karis!

@Resterwen: Really? That's cool. I'm curious what they think of Jace and Kyrin.

message 1708: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Yeah, what's the deal with there being no guys in this group? ;) Strange how it happened that way.

message 1709: by Stargazer (new)

Stargazer R. L. | 576 comments Technically, there's some IN the group they just don't comment much at all.

message 1710: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments I think that they get scared off by all the crazy shippers :)

message 1711: by Karis (last edited Nov 26, 2016 11:53AM) (new)

Karis | 132 comments Some of my favorite Christian home schooled fantasy authors are:

Jaye L Knight of course
Kendra E. Ardnek
Tricia Mingerink
Morgan Elizabeth Huneke
C.B. Cook
Claire M. Banschbach Although, she doesn't technically write in Christian genre; she's really good.

My favorite, non-homeschooled Christian fantasy authors:
Anna Thayer
Nadine Brandes
Jill Williamson
Chuck Black
R.J. Larson

And I know that some of you are actually in this group, so that really neat, too.

message 1712: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Jaye L Knight obviously, Tricia Mingerink, and Sharon Hinck are my three fav fantasy writers. Sharon Hinck is AMAAAZING people! You should check her out! As are Jaye and Tricia, but you already know of their awesomeness. ;)

message 1713: by Sarah Grace (last edited Nov 26, 2016 12:05PM) (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Anybody else seen\going to see Moana? I am going with my two sisters and two of my brothers tonight. It's really funny that my older brother is geeked out about it because it has Dwayne Johnson in it. XD I told him it will look like he is being the nice big brother and taking his sisters to see the new Disney Princess movie, but what it really is, is him going to see the new Disney Princess movie, and his sisters are going along. ;)

message 1714: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments I really love Sharon Hinck, too. I forgot to add her to the list because it's been a long time since I read anything by her. I've read the first three of the Swords of Lyric series by her. Amazing books and I get her newsletter.

message 1715: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) You must read the 4th one! It is so good!

message 1716: by Stargazer (new)

Stargazer R. L. | 576 comments I got to meet Claire M. Banschbach this month. :D She's fun! I haven't read any of her books though... I should probably do that.

message 1717: by Sarah Grace (last edited Nov 26, 2016 03:13PM) (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Sweet! I got to meet Tricia Mingerink in Oct. That was really cool! :D She was super sweet and very gracious.

And I read Claire Banschbach's The Rise of Aredor, and I really enjoyed it! You should check it out. I still have yet to read the sequel. Once I replenish my book buying account. :P

message 1718: by Erika (new)

Erika Mathews (erikamathews) | 199 comments How fun! I met Kendra E. Ardnek in April... :) And it's been fun knowing Jessica Greyson since we were toddlers at least. :)

message 1719: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Cool! I have never heard of Jessica Greyson, but I looked her up and her books look really interesting!

message 1720: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments I'm so jealous! I've never gotten to met any of these awesome authors. That would be so cool, especially growing up with them. I'm beta reading for a girl that I met once before and she plans on publishing sometime next year so that will be really neat.

message 1721: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments And, Sarah Grace, I totally plan on reading book 4. I just haven't been able to inter-loan it yet :( and I'm too cheap to buy a copy. Lol

message 1722: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) LOL! Me too. I ordered them from my library. ;)

message 1723: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Buehrer By the way, Jaye, congradulations on Nanowrimo!

Oooh! We don't have plans yet but I would love too! I am so excited for it! The animation is beautiful!

message 1725: by Brie (new)

Brie Donning (briedonning) | 199 comments One of my brothers really likes Ilyon. and there was this one guy who was really active on Jaye's forum.

message 1726: by Kendra (last edited Nov 27, 2016 12:14PM) (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments I've known Kendra E. Ardnek since before she was born... Alas, but the's the only one that I've met in person.

Jessica's books are awesome. I've not read her newest one, but the first two are among my favorites. I didn't know that you grew up with her, Resterwen!

Some other great Christian Fantasy authors -

Homeschooled:
Nicole Sager
Vicki V. Lucas
E. Kaiser Writes
Anne Elisabeth Stengl
Rachel Rossano
Hope Ann
Jenelle Schmidt

Not Homeschooled:
Bryan Davis
Gillian Bronte Adams

message 1727: by A'laura (new)

A'laura Pyeatt | 163 comments About meeting authors, I've only ever met one. And that's the lovely Jaye! I almost had the chance to meet James Dashner, who is the author of the Maze Runner series!!

I read all kinds of books. Christian fiction (mostly fantasy/historical), dystopia, futuristic, Sci-fi. Anything with lots of action and mystery and battles.

I basically read everything... XD except contemporary. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary.

message 1728: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Buehrer Definitely with A'laura on genre. I really don't have preferences aside from easily losing interest in contemporary. And romance.
I've never met any authors....

message 1729: by Claire (new)

Claire Banschbach Thanks for the shoutout, Karis! :) And it was fun meeting you the other day, Stargazer!

Yeah, I typically don't read contemporary or like romance but Melissa Tagg's books are great!

Change of plans; we went and say it today. I did enjoy it, but in my mind, it isn't up there with the Disney Princess classics or anything. Dwayne Johnson's character was hilarious, as was the chicken. ;)

message 1731: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 74 comments @Kendra: Gillian Bronte Adams was homeschooled, I believe. :) At least I was pretty sure she was... o.o

CONGRATS ON WINNING NANO, JAYE!!!!!!!!!!!!! *confetti*

I've met a few authors. It's the best feeling. :)

I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, Dwayne and the chicken looked hilarious! The animation looks insanely beautiful!

message 1733: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments Deborah wrote: "@Kendra: Gillian Bronte Adams was homeschooled, I believe. :) At least I was pretty sure she was... o.o"

Was she? Well, I checked her author's page and she didn't say yea or nay, and most authors who are do say something about it. And Sarah Holmen doesn't have her on on her list of Homeschooled Authors, and she's fairly thorough, especially when it comes to the better known authors. I may be wrong, but I was just going with what I had. (Perhaps I should go look at her acutal website...)

message 1734: by Brie (new)

Brie Donning (briedonning) | 199 comments And I've not met any published authors in person either.
I know one person slightly who has a writing blog, and a few that dabble, but with no commitment.
But I feel that I know a lot of you quite well.

message 1735: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments I'm surprised my notification bar didn't show any of this discussion. I didn't mean to disappear on y'all.

I read a pretty wide genre of books, but I'm rather picky with my fantasy. I don't like wizards, and most magic.

@ Claire Thanks, I've really enjoyed getting free copies to review of Rise of Aerdor series. They're really good and I was really disappointed when there was only two :( I'm looking forward to The Mountain Baron, though :)

Sarah Grace, you'll love the sequel. I actually read the two books out of order, but they were both great reads.

message 1736: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments @ Kendra I'll let you know that I was up till one last night re-reading Water Princess, Fire Prince :) I just love that book and enjoy it more now reading again after LTTD. I'm really intrigued by Laura; she one of my favorite characters. I really feel for her as she tries to talk and relate to people without giving away spoilers. I am always giving away spoilers. I totally just gave away the major plot of Defy to my mom tonight, because I thought that the part I was talking about was in Deny. Thankfully she forgives me, while my younger sister doesn't as easily.

Marrok Macintyre (marrokmacintyre) | 12 comments Hey everyone! what's up?

message 1738: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Ardnek | 541 comments Currently, our ceiling, though I don't know how long that'll last...

Karis - Aw, thanks so much! Laura is very intriguing, I know. And Spoilers ... do you need to join Morgan and my Spoiler Addiction Club?

message 1739: by Sarah Grace (new)

Sarah Grace Grzy (sarahgraceg) Haha! The ceiling . . . XD

I finished school for the morning, and am going to go clean house for the lady I work for this afternoon. And I just finished uploading the latest episode of mine and my sister's podcast! Maybe you guys would be interested in it.

http://our-favorite-things.weebly.com...

What's up with you Marrok?

message 1740: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Buehrer I'm going to get to claim my win for NaNoWriMo today! That's what's up with me. This is my first time ever doing National Novel Writing Month, and I made it. I was behind by about ten-thousand words all the way up until Thanksgiving break, but I'm still finishing with over fifty-thousand words. I'm really excited.

message 1741: by Sarah Grace (new)

message 1745: by Karis (new)

Karis | 132 comments @ A.L. Congrats :) I've never done a NANoWriMo before but I've heard how insane they are. *throws confetti (notice no color mentioned)*

@ Kendra I think I might have too. I really don't mind getting spoilers myself (unless they're huge), but I'm constantly spoiling book plots for my sister who doesn't appreciate it.

I bought a kindle copy of The Ankulen on Monday and really loved it. I actually started reading it to my little siblings. When I do Jen's angry/ sarcastic voice, Joel (my brother) kinda winces and once he said, "Well, she isn't very nice! " I almost blurted out a spoiler and said, "That's only because..." But I refrained, and was like, "You're right, she isn't really at first." I'm trying to convince him to be nicer (because knights are chivalrous) to his sister, Fair Maiden Amylynn.

I'm be sure to check this out, Sarah. I remember that I listened to the podcast interview/book review you had with Jaye L. Knight. I really enjoyed listening to it :)
