WillowRaven (willowraven1) | 7 comments I have been reviewing books for about 3 years now (give or take) and feel that I need to update it, make it more proactive, more in depth. I am considering a rating system, however am stuck on "caetgories" to rate. So far I have the following:

1. Plot
2. Characters
3. Cover Art/Design

I'm stuck. I'd like to have at least 5, and no more than 8, categories. Any suggestions?

(Note: once the categories are decided on, then I'll flesh them out as to what each one will cover: for example, for "Plot", does it have a good story line, does it flow well, is it easy or difficult to follow, etc)

Thanks for the input!

Can you explain how this would be defined/described in regards to how it would be used in a rating system?

Thanks!! 😀😀

Thank you! Do you mean in regards to the story line? or if the dialogue between characters flows (or maybe seems forced)? or something else?

On a scale of 1-5 with 1 - no diverse characters (bunch of white able-bodied straight characters) and 5 - all diverse characters (whether it be race, sexuality, disability)

Ah, ok - I got it! Thank you! 😀😀

4) Style - Faulkner, Saramago, Virginia Woolf all have very idiosyncratic ways of telling their stories. I love judging bookcover art! - )

Ah! Good idea!! I ended up putting in a category for "Writing Style and Editing" and added this to that category as something to consider when rating this category. Thank you for the input!!

And yeah, I hear you on the Cover Art. Some of it is downright *gorgeous* and sometimes I think "eh, maybe they should try again" LOL
