QNPoohBear | 478 comments Helllloooo? Anyone here? Are you watching the remaJames Herriot's Favorite Dog Storieske of All Creatures Great and Small? I was really excited to see this. I missed the original series and by the time I read the books, this new one was already in progress. I haven't read the full memoirs. I tried but James Herriot gets too up close and personal with too many farm animals for my taste. I read James Herriot's Favorite Dog Stories and James Herriot's Animal Stories

The show is good so far. Still a lot of farm animals but obviously for TV it's not as graphic as real life. I was so disappointed in episode 2. Tricki Woo is my favorite character of all and one of my favorite literary dogs. I was looking forward to seeing him come to life on screen. Sadly, they removed most of his plot. I don't think he appears in other episodes but I hope so. I know Dame Diana Rigg passed away shortly after filming so I don't expect Mrs. Pumphrey and Tricki Woo to appear in season 2.

I thought my parents would enjoy this show too but they were busy staring at their phones instead of the TV. (There's something wrong with this picture. My phone was upstairs in my purse where I barely remember I own it!) My mom watched episode 2 without me last night. My ulterior motive was to steer them away from The Bridgertons. NOT something I want to watch with my parents and I won't even open a thread on it since it's a fantasy more than period drama.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments Episode 3: Andante
That one was rough. Don't watch if you're sensitive. It serves to move the story forward and sets the stage for the relationships between the characters.

Episode 4: Tricki Woo <3 <3 <3 His Mummy isn't all THAT eccentric for today. They toned her down a bit for the show! No betting on horses and hounds, at least not so far. I'd love to see that though. The dog is so cute and a little scene stealer. I felt the veterinary medicine with the other dog was WAAYY unrealistic.

The Yorkshire Dales are so beautiful.

Neville Longbottom has grown up a lot since Harry Potter. He plays wealthy land owner Hugh.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments I saw the trailer for Season 2! I can't wait! It looks as charming as Season 1. Tricki Woo needs a haircut and the new actress doesn't look or sound anything like his original Mummy, Diana Rigg. I hope they include her pig in the story. I saw Tristan running after a pig in the trailer but I don't know which pig.

This series is exactly what we need right now.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments Season 2 has begun! They make some changes for the sake of a linear story and a romance. Plus they give the female characters more agency which I really like. I LOVED the little lamb Herbert and the puppy Scruff. Jim's heart is so big! How can Helen not fall in love with him? Tristan is amusing as ever. What he did was awful but I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing! Siegfried proves he has a heart and loves his brother very much even if he has a hard time expressing his feelings. As alwas Mrs. H gets to the heart of the matter quickly and helps resolve everything. The Yorkshire Dales are gorgeous and a character in their own right.

Congratulations to the show on being picked up for 2 more seasons!

QNPoohBear | 478 comments Episode 2: So funny and charming as always. A new romance is brewing for Mrs. H! I hope so because she deserves some happiness beyond taking care of the "boys." James is making a tiny bit of progress with Helen and way more than in the books. I think the real man would laugh to see how less awkward they made him. If I were the daughter though, this is the episode I would cry at- watching my parents in their youth slowly fall in love. I know she's seen the other adaptations before but as she said, the originals were still alive to call up and chat about it with and now they're all gone.

I'm eager for episode 3 featuing Tricki Woo! He's my favorite.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments Hmm Season 2 seems to be made up with some elements from the books. They want more diversity, more agency for women and they can't always get the right animals for the storyline. Episode 3 features a female farmer when in the book it was a man. They've also given Tristan a big backstory because Samuel West is much older than Callum Woodehouse and it needed some explanation. Mrs. Hall also has a more developed role. She's the mother to her "boys."

Jim is also more smooth in the love department.

Some of "Siegfried's" real-life eccentricities would be fun to adapt from they can't because of modern attitudes. I want to see that veterninary surgeon Granville Bennett, but I'm not sure he would go over well with modern audiences either.

Tricki Woo is adorable as always. Those Pekes are sooo cute but they don't really do much LOL! Tricki manages to get Tristan into trouble though and "Uncle" Herriot is rewarded for not doing anything.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments Aww the pentultimate episode gives us a brief storyline from the books. It was changed a lot to suit the storyarc of the TV show though which disapointed me. The love story is very sweet. One more episode to go this season.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments We're already missing this show. It ended in a lovely way and I look forward to seeing season 3. I absolutely adore Tricki Woo but am not enamored with the new actress playing his Mummy. Diana Rigg was so wonderful as Mrs. Pumphrey. It must be hard to step into the shoes of such a legend. My dad remarked he missed a lot of Season 1 so I suggested he recap by watching the season again on the Passport app since he paid for a PBS subscription.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments I read the first two books already. I'm holding off on 3 and 4 but I may have to cave in and read them before the show returns. I like how they give agency to the women and how they developed backstories for the Farnon brothers. The stories in the book are great but episodic. As is, I don't see them as a TV series. I can see why Rosie cried after seeing the first episode. I would probably cry too watching a representation of my dad as a young man, and falling in love with the Yorkshire dales and my mother. She liked Nicholas Ralph's accent which sets him apart from other actors who have played James Herriot. I'll have to see if I can get the audio books next time I'm in the car. Then my parents can listen too.

QNPoohBear | 478 comments I've read 4 books and am caught up on all episodes. The show is inspired by the books and keeps a lot of the animal stories from the books. It's a lovely and charming show. My mom and I liked how the women have more agency (view spoiler)
