It was a huge struggle but I finished this book, mostly to meet some challenges' tasks. In retrospective, I should have known that this is probably not going to be something I'd enjoy but thought I'd give it a go anyway. By the time that I felt I really should DNF, I was 3/4 through and thought it'd be such a waste if I didn't finish.
The first half was pretty much of a nothing. I felt that nothing really happened because it took that long to set up both protagonists' backgrounds and then they met before the whole love affair began. From this alone, you'd know (if you know me well) that I'd hate this type of romance! I kept waiting for the bad things to happen but it wasn't that kind of book despite featuring a mobster's boss. There were some violence but it's nothing in comparison to The Godfather so in this regards, I'm a little bit relieved.
This book mostly reminds me of those Spanish soapies I used to watch in my childhood. Of course, she's married. Of course, there's another one woman who loved him so much who will end up hurt. Of course, someone got really sick and needed a close male relative as donor. Yep, what you expect in a soapie, you'll get it in this novel. So, I guess if you're a fan of soapies, this novel is for you.
Thank you for this review. From your description, I don't think I would have liked it either. I started listening to it one day and after 20 minutes I realized that virtually nothing sunk in. I'm the type of person who will keep rewinding if I missed something. Rather than start over, I just tried a different book. Now I'll just remove it from my queue. I think this was one free for world day or first reads.
