Camille (camillelovesreading) | 2 comments I've been in a big reading slump ever since I finished reading "A Kingdom of Flesh And Fire" by Jennifer Armentrout (which is the 2nd book of From Blood And Ash, that you probably know).

It's really painful and I really hate it so what are the books that got you out of a reading slump ?

I like vampires, demons, pretty much anything as long as it is related to paranormal. I like new adult and adult books (if there's no spice it's harder for me to read) with a lot of romance but still a good plot. For reference, one of my favorite PNR/UF series is the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. I also don't want to start a super long serie so if it's only 3/4 books or even a stand alone that would be great !

I hate to tell you this, but that feeling will only get worse. It seems to me, and like many others, the more “Good” books you read, it will get harder for you to find books that will compare to it. It just happens. You just get to read so many good books your desire for another one will impair you in finding another good books. Don’t believe me? Check out my shelf titled “And That’s A No.” Those are the books that I read their sample pages. 968 books!!! It gets tough.

But some readers can manage to push on through to the next book. I don’t know how to do that. I just don’t want to attribute you to despair. There's always something out there. You just have to wade though the endless amount of self publishing books being published and entering the internet at bottlenecking speed.

But I truly envy you. You haven’t read these books yet, so you get to experience them for the first time.

Anyway, here are the books that a time or another, got me through my slumps.

Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews Burn for Me a great series to read. Ilona Andrews has a few other series worthy of reading as well. Oh, and the “Adult” component of this series doesn’t start until book 3 but it’s worth it.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series is very well crafted a series. Each book can be read alone.

She also has another series, The Arcana Chronicles. Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1) by Kresley Cole Poison Princess. I always inform people that this first book is not what it seems. What starts off as an angsty/teenage cheerleader drama/Contemporary book, around chapter 13 the story evolves. By the end you’re left with a YA/Coming of Age/Dystopia/Paranormal Romance. It’s just that Cole never drops you straight into her stories. She takes you on a journey. I included a link to a trailer for the second book in the series because it does a better job at explaining the series. https://www.thearcanachronicles.com/

Suzanne Wright has a couple of great series Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1) by Suzanne Wright Feral Sins and her Burn (Dark in You, #1) by Suzanne Wright Burn. Her Here Be Sexist Vampires (Deep In Your Veins, #1) by Suzanne Wright Here Be Sexist Vampires is also a good series as well.

K.F. Breene has a couple of series Born in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy, #1) by K.F. Breene Born in Fire and her Into the Darkness (Darkness, #1) by K.F. Breene Into the Darkness are both good series. Also, as with Ilona Andrews series, Born in Fire doesn’t start getting smutty until book two. Still worth the journey.

Jane Cousins has the Southern Sanctity series, To Woo A Warrior (Southern Sanctuary, #1) by Jane Cousins To Woo A Warrior. It gets better the further you go into the series.

Eve Langlais has M.A.N.Y series out there- this covid isolation has made her a writing/publishing speed demon. She’s been pushing two books out recently, every other month. Her Welcome to Hell series is a good laugh A Demon and His Witch (Welcome to Hell, #1) by Eve Langlais A Demon and His Witch (don’t believe this is the first book in the series though). All her books are on the side of funny. But I’ve taken up her Deviant series more recently Toxic Dust (The Deviant Future, #1) by Eve Langlais Toxic Dust. It's a dystopia/paranormal romance book and Langlais is known for her world building.

But it really depends on what sort of mood you’re in. If you need any more great get-me-out-of-this-funk books, I can offer more up.

If I’m being honest the way I got out of a reading slump is by completely changing genre. I understand you love urban fantasy and romance so why not read a romance book?
I broke my reading slump when reading mafia romance books lmao- menace by G.M Darhower. After I went through that phase I went back to urban fantasy romance and I haven’t been in a reading slump ever since (maybe that’s just me idk.
If you’re a fan of reverse harem you should check out the brutal boys of everlake prep it’s really good considering I wasn’t expecting much from a book called kings of quarantine haha.

I’d seriously start with Ilona Andrews Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews Burn for Me. I also need to make a correction. The sex starts in book two, not three.

Let me know if it works out for you.

Jessica | 1 comments I agree with the person who said to go with a genre change. I usually become disenchanted with reading when I read a really bad book. That's when I pick up something like Agatha Christie to pull me out of my reading slump. It is also how I found one of my all time favorite books, The Martian by Andy Weir. Neither one of those authors can be classified as romance although I think Christie would say there is always a little bit of romance if you look for it!
