Phil (lanark) | 19 comments Hi everyone. I might be missing this somewhere obvious. But is there an updated list of all the monthly agreed group reads that the group has made from the very beginning?

I've tried looking through the discussions list, but it's all over the place as people have added to discussions later one, so it's completely out of order.

I'd like to have a chance to catch up from the start, basically.

On the Boxall Homescreen, look for the Discussion Board (below Currently Reading and Challenges). The Discussion Board is organized into folders (the 1st folder is "Members" followed by "News!!!) -- scroll down until you get to the folder "1001 Monthly Group Read" (it's the 9th folder down). The 1st topic in that folder is "1001 Books Group Reads List -- Everything We've Read and Everything Coming Up ." All the books we've read so far are listed in this topic in order starting in 2008.

If you need more help, let me know. As new moderators, we are still working on organizing the site so please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Phil (lanark) | 19 comments thank you so much, Karen. that's exactly what I was looking for. I wonder if it can be pinned, so it doesn't get lost. it's a really useful list.

thanks again.

It is pinned so it is at the top of the Monthly Read folder. I have pinned the books for 2023 in order and will eventually get to the older books, but they will have to be pinned in chronological order and when you pin something it always goes to the top of the list.

I have a question that arises out of the many versions of the list. The big spreadsheet shows the years certain books were removed from the list. For the purposes of this group to qualify as a Boxall 1001 book read, must it be only a book currently not listed as deleted? Or can it be any book that was ever on the list?

It can be any book that was ever on the list.

There are two terms you will see used -- Combined List and Core list. The Combined List is every book that has ever been on a 1001 Boxall list. The Core List is only those books that have been on each and every 1001 List edition. Most of us are attempting to complete the whole 1300+ books on the Combined list.

Brianna Lynn | 3 comments Good evening! I have a question about marking books as read to count towards our personal yearly Boxall Challenge. I recently picked up "The Collected Stories of Stefan Zweig" from the library. There is only one story in the collection that's on the Boxall list (Amok). I tried to find an Amok stand alone but had no such luck. I intent to read all of the stories in the collection so the entire book will be read. However, will it still count considering the title of the version does not match a book specifically on the list?

Personally, I have a "Tag" entitled "Boxall Total" where I keep track of all the Boxall books I have read. Then, for the yearly challenge, you list this Tag as the one you want to have counted for the challenge. You can use it every year and it keeps track of your Boxall total at the same time.

Here's a link to an Amok stand alone -- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Does that help?

Brianna Lynn | 3 comments What I mean is, I have a personal GR goal to read 60 books this year. As I also track Boxall list reads in GR, I was aiming to scratch off Amok from the big list. I couldn't get my hands on a physical copy of Amok, so I decided to check out the Collected Stories book from my library, which has Amok included among the stories. (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...)

The collected stories edition will be marked as one completed book in my GoodReads account. I also have it tagged in my boxall shelf for my boxall challenge. What I'm unsure of is if the title will be counted towards a completed boxall book this year considering "The Collected Stories of Stefan Zweig" is not explicitly on the list.

Alternatively, when I finish Amok in the collection of stories, I could mark the stand alone version in GR as complete, however, that would inflate my actual GR yearly total (1 for Amok, 1 for "Collected Stories of Stefan Zweig").

No one is checking to make sure you're accurately recording your list reading, so it really only matters how you want to do it!

While reading the Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe (which I have shelved as a whole book), I read the three stories that are list books. I shelved them separately, just so my 1001-books shelf would be accurate. Yes, it gave me three extra books on my Goodreads count, but that book is enormous, so I felt ok about that lol.

But you could also just shelve the Collected Stories as a list book and nothing bad will happen. :)

Brianna Lynn | 3 comments Thank you! I think I was overthinking it a bit much lol. I guess it won't hurt to double count the book and the story. Thanks again!

FYI (while you have the book) -- Zweig's "Chess Story" is also on the list.

Yes, I am -- just as soon as I get released from jury duty today.

LOL -- No, thank God! I was on murder case in San Antonio, TX. Interesting, eye-opening, informative, emotional, thought-provoking -- and I never want to do that again! We could use our devices in the jury room during breaks, take them into court but muted and not used, and then they took everything away during deliberations even Fitbits, smart watches, and Kindles.

Maureen | 2 comments When you are reading a book on the list that you just cannot vibe with and it is difficult for you to plow your way through do you DNF it and mark it as read or continue to try to read it?

Personally, I always finish a book I have started. Now sometimes it may take a while; I'll read only a page a day or take a break from it for a time. But it's all up to you.

Margaret Grote | 3 comments I purchased the hard back "1001 Books" but also downloaded the excel list (from unknown source...) -
This version gives each book "Wilson Score" Even using Co-Pilot, I can't find this term anywhere. Do any of you know what this is and how I can learn more. Is this the difficulty level of the book? Thanks!

Ian Slater (yohanan) | 15 comments Wilson Score is a technical term in statistics, which field I don’t even remotely understand. Descriptions can be found by searching on-line; be prepared for heavy mathematics.
