Crystal | 72 comments I understand this isn't the typical 'detective novel' because it's about a real investigation by a real FBI agent... if you disqualify it I'll understand.

In the Enemy's House: The Secret Saga of the FBI Agent and the Code Breaker Who Caught the Russian Spies by Howard Blum

I'm going to have to say no. I don't think it quite fits. If it's any consolation, I also disqualified the one I wanted to nominate. lol

Jessica Buzzard | 522 comments Ugh I'm between two....one I love and one on my TBR
I'll go with:

Naked in Death

My other was

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

I was worried it wouldnt count as a detective story even tho its a mystery. Such a good book though :)

message 9: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5929 comments I have to say that The Curious Incident doesn't work because there is not a detective in the story.

Naked in Death fits, however I was under the impression that it is a "sexy" book. Goodreads doesn't allow any erotica as monthly reads for all ages clubs, so I would love it if someone could confirm for me whether the book has graphic sex scenes or not. If there is just tension and off-the-page scenes that is fine. Anyone?

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 522 comments I've never read the first one so I honestly don't know! oh no!!! I'm sorry!!!

Kristie | 5929 comments No worries, Jessica!

Elle Lee (elleleejay) | 3 comments Renatus

Triptych

Hide

The Sound of Rain (Not sure if this one counts because the main character is a "former" homicide detective)

Any of the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo

Do private detectives count, or just police detectives?

Kristie | 5929 comments Elle Lee wrote: "Do private detectives count, or just police detectives?"

Either would work as long as it is a detective who is investigating something and not an FBI person or private citizen snooping, etc. An ex-detective who is brought back for a case or is investigating something would be acceptable.

We have one nomination per person. Did you want to pick one that you already suggested or something different?

Also, it needs to be first in a series or a standalone.

Kristie | 5929 comments I'm going to nominate One Last Child.

Oooops! Sorry! I clearly skipped over that rule and got carried away! So, trying this again, one nomination is Renatus.

Thanks!

Kristie | 5929 comments Leena wrote: "will historical do?"

Yes. As long as there is a detective in it and they are investigating something, the time period doesn't matter.

I read this in December and there are definitely graphic scenes. In addition, the storyline includes prostitution, rape, incest and pedophilia. This is not a book for all audiences.

I'm having trouble with the links today too. I'm also having difficulty searching for books. A lot of them aren't coming up. Hopefully, Goodreads is working on it.

We have one nomination per person. Which would you like to add?

message 24: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 580 comments they are both great.
I'll go with Andrea Penrose.

message 25: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 580 comments and I too seem to be having searching titles using the browser only, but they show up OK on the app.

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5929 comments I hope they fix it soon. It is pretty frustrating.

Crystal | 72 comments I had some issues earlier today, too. I'm glad to see its wasn't just me.
