Kate S | 6459 comments In honor of A Crime in the Neighborhood (1999 winner), read any book by a woman with an MPG of Crime.

Please post any questions or comments about task 20.4 in this thread.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments Feel free to lock in titles with the MPG.

Norma | 1822 comments Does an MPG of Mystery - Crime work for this task?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments Norma wrote: "Does an MPG of Mystery - Crime work for this task?"

Yes, but Mystery by itself will not work.

message 5: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 3270 comments I doubt the mpg will change, but just in case:
The Bungalow Mystery

Bea The Dry MPG of Mystery-Crime

Rosemary | 4288 comments Locking these in because they have low numbers:
The Abbey Court Murder
The Man with the Dark Beard
The Crime at Tattenham Corner
Who Killed Charmian Karslake?
The Crystal Beads Murder

and this one because Crime is near the bottom of the list:
One of Us Is Lying

Ooh, Rosemary, are you going to be on an Annie Haynes binge this season?
By the way, I live about a mile from Tattenham Corner.

I probably won't read them all, but you know how it is when planning! Eyes bigger than reading time. But I will read at least one because they also fit the Ann/e task and the Opposite Sex.

I had to look up Tattenham Corner - didn't know it was at Epsom racecourse. That sounds interesting - I'll try to get to that one!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5279 comments I've been wanting to read Black Coffee by Agatha Christie for a while, but I can't seem to find an available, affordable copy of the actual play Black Coffee: A Mystery Play in Three Acts anywhere. If I read the novelization by Charles Osborne, does it still work here?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments No, the novelization is by a man. For that title you would need to find the play for this task.

Worldcat says that these libraries shelve a copy, so you might be in luck:

San Juan Island Library, Friday Harbor
Orcas Island Library District, Eastsound
Seattle Public Library, Central Library, Seattle

Thanks for your help - we will see. I haven't been out yet, even to the library, but perhaps they would mail it to me. If not, I may just have to wait or not count it. I was hoping for an e copy, but it doesn't seem' to exist.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments I haven't yet been to our library, but I know they have curbside pickup - that you can order online or by phone and get your materials without going in.

I'm not sure what you would think of as affordable, of course, but this is the playscript: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Coffee-A...

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5279 comments Thanks, Rosemary,
I came across that myself this am and bought it! I had used so many different searches with nothing with used copies for $30 up to $700 that I couldn’t believe it when I found it. I even read everything all the way down the page to make sure it truly was the play and not the Osborne novel. Fingers crossed that it’s the right one when it actually arrives!

message 18: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4288 comments Oh good! I found it on Amazon UK and then checked to see if the US site had the same one. As long as it's Samuel French it should be fine.
