There are - but I included the other Jennifer's word in brackets as you didn't have one. I'll forget 'Jeni' I'm sure!!

3 Down - Male author:
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

Rated this one as 5* (9.5/10). My review is here:-
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I loved Trent Dalton's first book (Boy Swallows Universe), which was largely autobiographical. There's no question he can write.
All Our Shimmering Skies is good, but I was spoiled by what I know he is capable of.

Love that cover: A Body on Fitzgerald’s Bluff by Anna Celeste Burke 4⭐️
Paranormal: Midnight Screams by Sara Clancy 4⭐️

I really enjoyed Max Porter's unique young character, Lanny, in this unusual, fascinating mix of contemporary family story and ancient spirits. So good! (Made the Booker longlist)

I just enjoyed Kopp Sisters on the March by Amy Stewart, number five in the series. It's April 1917, just before America enters WW1, and the sisters are off to army camp with another colourful character.

Novella (125+ pages):-
Cardiff, by the Sea by Joyce Carol Oates

Title novella - 170 pages - rated this particular one as 2* (5/10) but found the other three in the volume better - book overall rated as 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. My review is here:-
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I marked this one down to 3.5. Though I enjoyed reading it, could not rate it as high as the Nowhere Child. The Wife and the Widow was told from the perspective of two people. However, the timeline was confusing for me, and did not really understand it until the reveal at the end.

c) Male Author: The Wife and the Widow by Christian White - 3.5★ - AA

4. Red cover: No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay 5*

An excellent thriller, despite the premise (a girl wakes up to find her whole family missing from the house) feeling very familiar.

I was a little disappointed in this book, as I did not enjoy it as much as Station Eleven, also by Emily St. John Mandel, which I read recently.

Winter Journey by Aussie author Diane Armstrong. A Polish-Australian woman investigates a 1941 mass burial site in Poland. We do need to remember what we are capable of, both bad and good.

The Vanishing Children by a favourite author of mine, Graham Brack is another Master Mercurius mystery set in the Netherlands in the 17th century. I'm very fond of this gentle, witty cleric whom William of Orange keeps dragging away from his comfortable university post to work for him.

5 Down - Paranormal:-
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Open Water, a novella by British-Ghanaian author Caleb Azumah Nelson, is a poetic, complicated, lyrical love story, some of which I loved.
