Any suggestions or ideas for this group? Maybe something for better organization? Or a fun challenge idea? Put them in this thread!

message 2: by Calypso ♡ (new)

Calypso ♡ for the BOTM I suggest Tristan Strong
as a series for the BOTM IDK if y'all are doing series or not

message 3: by Calypso ♡ (new)

Calypso ♡ and for stand alone
The book thief

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Ohhh wait hold up I thought you meant ideas for the overall BOTM thing -
I'll be putting out a thread in for BOTM suggestions in a few days once I decide how to do it

message 5: by Calypso ♡ (new)

Calypso ♡ oh okay

message 6: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (dollhousebooks) If there's enough people who are active/are interested in this group it might be fun to have a group Discord server. That way those who do the BOTM can join a voice chat and talk about the books. Idk if that is too personal though.

Also, suggestion if it's not already an idea. Maybe doing a monthly read-a-thon where individuals try to read certain books that fit a theme or a read-a-thon where teams compete to read a certain # of books?

That's a cool idea! I've never used Discord so I'd be out of my element there XD

Ooo that would be fun! That would be good for our March challenge, since it's already almost March and a more complicated challenge would be too much to organize in a few days.

I like the theme idea! Or maybe having an open theme but prompts for extra points?
By certain # of books, do you mean we (the group) would choose an amount and that would be the goal for each team? Or each team would set their own goal?

message 8: by Calypso ♡ (new)

Calypso ♡ Oh Hannah mentioning Discord reminded me of something

group Pintrest Board and Spotify Playlist

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooo that would be so cool! I don't have accounts for those either, but I might be able to start a Pinterest Board. I'm thinking that when I open mod applications in another week or so, maybe one mod could focus on things like that, (social media and other platforms) or something.

A spotify playlist would be so lovely! I'd definitely contribute to that!

Regarding the read-a-thons, it's pretty open. The ones I've done in the past were
1. an allotted time was given and you tried to read as many books as you could during that period (individual)
2. participants separated into two groups and a theme was given (ie. thriller) and people had the entire month to read books and were given x2 if they read a thriller. that way it's low-key (group)

but honestly, whatever works for this group and what you guys like!

I do love the Spotify idea!

That sounds good! I kinda based off of something like that for the March Readathon team challenge but switched it up a bit.

kelsie (taylor's version) hello! can we put some discussions in the book discussion place?

either particular books that are popular eg. hunger games etc.

or more general discussions, like classics or ya etc.

Just saw this! Will do.

As a general note, suggestions for QoD are welcome as well:)

message 15: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Hey. Not sure if you can delete old threads etc but there's sooooooo maaaany topics that have been unused for 6-8+ months. Would it be possible to do a cull? It's a little overwhelming browsing through all the threads/boards and searching for active stuff.

message 16: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Also, for the BOTM would it be possible to do a new release and an older book? Eg. One released in the last 6 months and one released 5+ years.

Not sure if it would suit but just an idea!

I tried to make an archive for different threads, but yes, it might be easier to just have one big archive:) I'll do that as soon as possible. Thank you for your feedback!

Sure, yeah! A lot of groups have 2+ BOTM (standalone, series, underrated, etc.), but if we have enough people participating, I would love to:)

Thanks for your suggestion! It seems like Shadow and Bone won by a long shot- technically that's an older book? First published in 2012.

For February, it's a little late to start, but we could have read a newer book if you'd like!

I appreciate your ideas! Thank you:)

message 19: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Don't go changing anything on short notice! I just mean possibilities for future :) next month is fine (if anyone even wants to! maybe poll it?) And you wouldn't have to participate in both. Just gives options.

PS. I'm cool with shadow and bone! looking forward to it.

Yup, of course!

Yay! That's good to hear:)

message 21: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments So I'm curious about what the challenges entails? Is it in relation to the BOTM?

I've never really done one and I don't know what types of challenges there... are? But I'd be keen to give it a go! :)

message 22: by Catherine (semi active), Co-Founder (inactive) (new)

Catherine (semi active) | 1426 comments Mod
Usually challenges have a theme- for example, our themes previously have been Broadway, Marvel, and Earth Day. The goal of the challenge is to basically earn as many points as possible (usually with a team, sometimes solo) by of course reading books, answering prompts, etc. I'm planning on a challenge for March (it's a little soon for February)- you'll see more then!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yay! That's good!

riley rue (rileyrue) | -41 comments Hey Catherine/Yeehaw, I saw that you guys had the April BOTM poll up already, but did you guys send out poll invites to all of the group? I don't think I received one, and I stumbled upon the poll while I was browsing them; there are only 3 votes so far (mine included), so I think instead of people not voting, maybe only a few members know the poll has been made. It'd be a good idea to invite everyone to vote. :)

@riley rue I sent out an invite to all my friends when I sent it.

message 35: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments It might be advisable to send it to the list of group members and not just your friends list V?

I have yet to get an invite also.

And when you use the mobile app you aren't able to see or find the polls page without a direct invite or html link to the poll itself.

I know lots of people tend to use the mobile app, and I've been using it a bit lately also!

message 36: by riley rue (new)

riley rue (rileyrue) | -41 comments I was thinking that too; it'd be a pity if not many members voted because they weren't aware of the polls' creation, since this group's BOTM is really fun. But that's just a suggestion. Good luck, Yeehaw, I hope it goes well. :)

Yeah, I pointed that out to V...not sure what happened. Maybe it was a GR glitch. I wasn't sure if it was just me or if it was everyone. Thanks for pointing that out:)

Rachael (dogoodwithbooks) | 66 comments Hi! This is more so a question, but is there a specific discussion board for people who want to participate in the monthly fun reads?

I'm interested in reading next month's pick, I Kissed Shara Wheeler, and I wanted to know if there's a section where I can talk to other group members about the book while we're all reading it.

Any help is much appreciated! :)

@Rachael I'm pretty sure next month I Kissed Shara Wheeler is going to be our fun read for the group so if you would like once August hits I'll put a fun read discussion for that book under the BOTM tag!

let me know if that is all right with you :)

Hello Rachael!! Yes the fun read for August is I Kissed Shara Wheeler and the thread is made, it should be right under August BOTM thread. If not please personally message me and we will try and get this fixed. I know we have alot of fun readers who are excited to read this as well so feel free to join in!

We haven’t had a challenge/readathon in a while, but I’m hoping to have one in the near future- most likely, it’ll be winter themed. If you have any suggestions at all, feel free to share your thoughts in the suggestion box!”

What kind of suggestions are you looking for? The winter-themed book suggestions, or like suggestions for doing the readathon itself?

I’m still getting used to Goodreads groups, so I probably have very little useful input at this point, LOL, but I thought I should ask first before at least trying to think of something helpful. 🫣😂

@jessica so last year we did a reading challenge and we had team winter and team summer but we can do another idea like that! I think it would be great! Umm let me talk to Catherine and Mackenzie and see what they want to do for a challenge and I will get back with you! Sound good?
