It’s the 5th book in the Adversary Cycle series.

I’m loving this old school cover!! My library doesn’t have book 3 and 4 in the series! Makes no sense as it’s on Libby? They have 1,2,5,6 ?

I might put the first one on hold just to see I guess 🤨

Yeah, this old school cover is really cool. I'm not surprised that they don't have all the books in the series. This is a much older series and I've had good success with one library and not the other!
Hope you give this series a try one day Mel. It's been pretty fun adventure!

Yeah, books 1,2 and 3 are pretty standalone. Book 4 has tie-ins to book 1. Book 5 is a direct sequel to book 4. Book 6 is a sequel to book 5, but we’re going to switch over and read all of the repairman Jack books (there are 16 more of those I think) before reading book 6 as they eventually lead up to the same point before 6. The repairman Jack books all tie back to book 2. So... confusing enough? 😂

I got to December, Chapter 7, Part 1 last night. I'm not sure what to think about this Rafe character. He seems sketchy!
(view spoiler)[He's wanting to try and change Lisl for some reason. Too make her angry at the way people have treated her. But at the same time, is he trying to get her to have more confidence in herself and stand up for herself?

Just got there myself. Yep, I have no idea where this plot is going too. I’m definitely intrigued though!
And yeah, I don’t think Rafe is (view spoiler)[a good person. He seems to have a justification for all the bad things he does. I don’t think he’s Jimmy but I’m not sure who he is. (hide spoiler)] 🤣😂

I made it to part 2, ch15. So now, I'm convinced (view spoiler)[ that Rafe is actually Jimmy. The quick healing, the manipulating, the ease of doing evil, and the recognition that Will had (but couldn't put a finger on) at the party all seem to fit. I know we've jumped ahead in time, but it's hard to tell how far. I'm thinking that Lisl was targeted just because she was closest to Will. We'll see I guess! (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you that (view spoiler)[Rafe is super sketch and evil. Healing fast is definitely not “human”.
But I kept thinking that Jimmy was bigger then Rafe??

Stopped at the same point, Ch17.
With Rafe, I didn’t think (view spoiler)[ that he was Jimmy until Will acted like he recognized him. That part made me think that Jimmy has disguised himself somehow as Rafe. But it’s really hard to tell how much time has actually passed to know how old the kid would be now. I’m curious to see how it plays out.

So, was it just bad luck with Will’s parents and the fire? Or was the evil involved somehow? Whatever is coming up to happen with Danny isn’t going to be good! (hide spoiler)]

This book has been really interesting with my response to it.
It started slow. I didn’t know who these characters where and what this all had to do with Jim, Carol and Jimmy. So I kept reading and plowing on, thinking when is this going to get better like the others.

And now at this point, it feels like the whole plot has this sense of dread and uneasy feeling!!
I’m glad I stuck it out in the beginning because it was good but it didn’t have me glued to the book. Now it does.
I just have a bad feeling that everything is not going to go right in the last half! 🤣😂

I definitely agree, this one has been on a much slower build up pace, but the dread is definitely getting to be strong across all the storylines. I’m totally curious what’s happened with (view spoiler)[ Carol? She’s kinda left out at the moment, but I’m sure we see her again. (hide spoiler)]

I was not expecting Martin in the crazy religious cult to be homeless and pop up like that outside the hospital. His comment about not believing and that he’s being tricked also makes me wonder too if Father Bill did the right thing for Danny by burying him. It’s all so bat shit crazy. 🤣😂 (hide spoiler)]

I got to the start of Part III: Now, Chapter 20 tonight.
I have no idea where this plot is going to go. LOL!!

I stayed up super late last night and finished. I ended up liking this one better than Reborn. (view spoiler)[ Not even close to a happy ending here! This is pretty dark where we end up. Almost everyone bites it! 😬. And wow, the Danny storyline is one of the saddest, meanest I’ve ever read! What torture for both Father Bill and Danny. It gives me the chills to think about. I liked that this one went back to the feel of the evil from The Keep. I also liked how FP Wilson made the evil basically play the evil as just an influence, where the people really make the decisions themselves (even though they have bad info to work from). That feels right for the big good vs evil storyline I think. I totally see this series ending in a dark way though! (hide spoiler)]

I'm really glad you enjoyed this one more then Reborn. This one started off much more slow then Reborn but I feel this plot of Reprisal is more complex and just WTF. Even more then Reborn, if that's possible. 🤣😂

You’re definitely right. Slower build up here for sure, but I do like the overall storylines with all the characters here more, I guess. This was better horror I thought.

You're totally right. Reborn felt more (view spoiler)[like 80s horror that's a bit ridiculous but totally fun to read. I really didn't have as much dread in that one that I have in Reprisal. This one feels more dark and evil.
The change in Lisl has also been dreadful but I can't look away. At the same time, I'm afraid to read more. Using that whole "can't look away from a train wreck" analogy here.

I totally agree with you! This book was so much darker and sinister then Reborn. I loved this one more because I tend to like horror that's a bit more dark and evil like this.

The feeling of dread that I had (view spoiler)[for Lisl and Father Bill just kept building and building.
Wow! So many died at the end. I'm not sure what's going to happen or who will replace Glaeken. He kept saying the Lady. So it's not Repairman Jack is my guess.
I love how he basically mentions Repairman Jack at the end in by connecting with him and basically ramping him up. I know that's who he was talking about in NYC. It has to be!

Yeah, what happened to Danny will stay with me. That was so brutal and made me feel a bit sick. Talk about dark! LOL!
I really wish Lisl had not died or Ev or Renny. Renny came around in the end!!
But this series is not for the faint and I'm not sure what role Carol will have. She was not killed so I'm not sure what part she will play in the future.
And Father Bill has to find his faith in goodness again. I'm not sure how he'll do it but I hope so for his soul. (hide spoiler)]

This was so good! I can't wait to take on Jack! I'm so excited to get to that series now that everything seems to be setting up for some crazy good plots and great horror.

Yes! Darker and more sinister is right. I liked that a lot as well. (view spoiler)[ I’m totally curious about the Lady now. That kinda came out of nowhere. I’m also curious like you about how Jack gets tied in to all of this. I do think that the RJ books are all over the place in terms of plot and that they don’t tie into this storyline until later in the series, but we shall see I guess.

Yeah, I was surprised none of the characters here made it through. That’s pretty rough! But I guess it’s part of showing just how bad this evil is. I find this good vs evil storyline interesting in the way it’s being portrayed. The evil is trying to take over the world to feed its appetite with the suffering, but the good is only partially paying attention and acting to stop the evil, but with little concern for what happens to us. Interesting idea, and it explains how so much evil can happen so often. It feels like a statement about how things are right now. (hide spoiler)]
