Abigail Boateng | 17 comments Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi is one of my favorite books. The first reason, which might be biased is because the author is from the same country as me. The second reason is because I loved how well the author told the story of two girls living in two different worlds. Effia and Esi are two half-sisters. In the book, the author narrates the life of Esi who was captured during a raid during a raid in their village and sold into slavery. She also manages to narrate the life of Effia who is married to an Englishman and it's privileged to live in the cape coast castle. The book touch's base on lives of Ghanaians during this time as well as traditions that were in place. The author continues to show slavery both in the African experience and African American experience.

Overall, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5. The book is just captivating from beginning to end. I love how simple it is to understand it. I love how the author was able write two different narratives' without putting too much information and making the book too long. The idea of two similar people living two completely different lives is something that we might see every day but not to this extreme. The book was just a delight to read.
