James Best (jamesbest) | 300 comments Between my wife and I we probably have at least 1000.

I have about 850 books in my permanent library, mostly mysteries, thrillers, military history, U.S. history, and sports.

My wife has at least 150 books in her library which is mostly cookbooks, science fiction, fantasy, teen sci-fi/fantasy, young readers, and children's classics.

Obviously, I need to buy more bookshelves :-)

I recommend the Billy bookcases from IKEA - they're not super expensive and you can mix and match narrow ones, wide ones and glass or wood shelves.

Ruth (ruthjacobson) | 8 comments Over 700. Most of them Mystery Thriller and Suspense. Surprisingly I'm not out of shelf space, yet anyway.

W There are so many books I still have, when I started collecting in the mid 80's.The work of favourite authors including Dick Francis,Arthur Hailey,P.G.Wodehouse and James Hadley Chase. Also, books I bought on my international travels. Those remind of the places I've been to.

Joan (justreadingabook) | 2 comments I have floor to ceiling built in shelves along two 25 ft walls and they are filled! I would have to say well over 700 books. I love a great cookbook, historical fiction and horror book. Some authors I have to have the hardbacks and others not so fussed.

message 9: by W (new)

W I find hardbacks hard to throw away and they take up so much space.

message 12: by Tone (new)

Tone | 1773 comments There are around a thousand books in my city apartment and at least a hundred in my holiday home. I do not like to give away books, but shall have to downsize soon because all the book cases are full.

I had a "rule": if I wanted to keep the book and it wouldn't fit, something had to be donated. I'm within walking distance of one of those 'little libraries", so that's what I'll do.

Thanks, your rule makes sense. Also 'little libraries' for donating used books sound convenient, but we don't have them in my country.

Thanks a lot for the link! I found to my amazement that there are a few Little Free Libraries in Norway as well. One of them is not that far from my home, so I'll check it out for sure.

I own several kindles, but I never seem compelled to ever pick them up. I prefer physical books in every way. I know I have thousands of kindle books (mostly acquired as freebies) that I will never read, but I don't have the same sense of regret for the ones on my bookshelves I may never get to. Perhaps out of sight, out of mind?

message 20: by Mike (new)

Mike (tigermike) I have hundreds of books, but I tend to clear them out and collect more!! So while the number doesn't change the titles do. I have also collected kindles but haven't read many.
