Jon Gosselin has earned a bit of my admiration. I'm sorry he ever agreed to marry psycho Kate, have 72 children thru the use of fertility treatments, and then to have his family taped for a reality show, but I like that he's stepping in to shut down the train wreck.

http://omg.yahoo.com/news/jon-gosseli...

And I've never seen the show, so keep in mind that I'm totally judging Kate by what I know glancing through Star and US Weekly in the checkout line at the grocery.

message 2: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) I can see this one of two ways:

1) Jon is actually looking out for the kids, more than can be said about Kate, who presumably wants the show to continue.

2) Jon just wants to piss Kate off.

According to my mother, who used to watch the show a lot but not necessarily religiously, Kate "forced" Jon to quit his day job in order to help with the kids and the show, and he didn't really like this. I've seen the show and I think Kate wants it to continue because it's making her a star, and giving her a lot of money, but I agree with others who say that it's just become a trainwreck and for the safety and mental well-being of the children, it should be stopped.

Let Jon and Kate have their own fashion lines and television shows, but leave the kids at home!

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I think they're both creepy, but Kate terrifies me. I heard she's going to cohost The View soon.

edit: I've never seen the show, either.

edit #2: Someday those kids will grow up, and they're going to have some interesting, ahem, perspectives.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Someone should have stepped in a long time ago, when both Jon and Kate went from being anonymous to becoming two egomaniacs.

Frankly, they never should have allowed this to happen, to themselves or to their kids. They're to blame for the dysfunction and the inevitable breakup of their marriage, but I also blame the show's producers for being such vultures and trying to capitalize on a very difficult situation.

On a side note, Kate Goselin was the keynote speaker last week or so for the Southern Women's Convention, held here locally. She did not receive a very warm or welcome reception, but Southern women around here are too genteel to call her out for what she is: a sleazy opportunist.

I think she already guest-hosted the View, and bombed.

message 8: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Why did I youtube search that View appearance? Why?

message 9: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) The real question is, why did I try to watch it?

message 10: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments I am really befuddled with this new trend of people becoming famous because they did something abnormal, i.e. pop out a bunch of kids. How does this qualify them to be media personalities? How does this make them any kind of role model for the rest of us? And, mostly, why in the heck would I want to watch that kind of crazy, mixed-up, dysfunctionality when I have enough in my own life?

Hmmmm.... just befuddled. (That's my new word of the day.)

message 11: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) Sher: I think part of it with the Gosselins is that the babies are cute little half-Asian babies (although I think Jon is half-Korean himself? I don't remember). My mom also wants to know why so many women think Jon is attractive, and we both think it's because he's Asian but "white enough."

message 12: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Because with the advent of 24/7 news, we became obscenely interested in the private lives of others. Then Survivor came so we could all watch people stab others in the back and go "yeah" and feel good about the double crossing that went on, as if this was good behavior. What that led to? That man and woman who have a baby a year, what 16 children?

The Poster Vagina: It's Not A Clown Car, comes to mind.

message 13: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Bwahahahahaha! Oh my.... that brought tears to my eyes Stephen.

Angie - "white enough" ... isn't that just horrible? But, sadly there is probably some truth to it. They are incredibly cute kids, but it just breaks my heart that they are in the middle of this weird, egomaniacal tug-of-war between parents. Jon & Kate better start savings for them, not for college but for therapy.

I'm just one of those bizarre people who doesn't watch most of the reality shows (except So You Think You Can Dance), because they just disturb me. My faith in humanity is often eroded by watching them, so I prefer to dwell in ignorance that there are so many people out there who love all the double-crossing and backstabbing. Is this all Jerry Springer's fault? :\

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I hate Kate Gosselin and her feeble attempts at creating celebrity so much.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i never thought i'd say this but:

sandra bullock is really not that pretty. hot bod, cute and fun but upon closer inspection while watching The Proposal i realized that she is just not that pretty. that is all

message 16: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I think both Sarah Pi and I agree at one point that Sandra Bullock was not hot.

Phil | 11837 comments Angie wrote: "My mom also wants to know why so many women think Jon is attractive, and we both think it's because he's Asian but 'white enough.' "

Maybe it's the Ed Hardy t-shirts?

I've always thought she looks somewhat manly. My wife disagrees, of course, but I stick to my opinion.

message 19: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments add me to that list ALTHOUGH she is near the top of cool celebrities that i would hang out with. and not just because her husband is an uber cool custom bike builder

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I think Jon Gosselin is attractive and it has nothing to do with him being "white enough." He's just cute.

message 21: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments I am more into Sandra than I am Jon, not sure what that means. But given a real choice I pick Jesse James.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments RandomAnthony wrote: "I think both Sarah Pi and I agree at one point that Sandra Bullock was not hot."

I think we did. I'm also with Kevin on thinking that she's one of those celebrities who comes off as "real" and thus somebody who would be fun to hang out with. Most of the interviews I've seen her in have been funnier than her movies.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I like Sandra Bullock, she does seem down to earth and fun. Okay, so some of her movies aren't great, but I liked her in While You Were Sleeping. And c'mon, she's better than Meg Ryan!

I saw her interview with Barbara Walters, and she turned the tables on Barbara and asked her where she saw herself in ten years. Ha!

I am no expert on hotness, but I think she's cute, and that she looked beautiful at the Oscars.

message 24: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments she was a great trooper on the george lopez show (i know, i know...i watched george lopez) and she was funny, fun and def real. she was there promoting The Blind Side and it was cool because lopez talked about how a few years back sandra took him under her wing and helped him get his start during a rough time for him. he was very emotional and genuine about what she meant to him. then she let a real jerk latina chick dress her up in girl gang attire and she was fun with it. she totally turned it at the end. great

message 25: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I remember, when I was living in the Austin area, she had a big house built out by the lake. I think she ended up in litigation with the builder over major defects in the workmanship of the place.

I guess that really doesn't fit in with this discussion. Okay. Sorry.

message 26: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments I liked it Larry.

Félix (habitseven) Well, gee. Thanks, C.

Jackie! Sandra Bullock is not better than Meg Ryan!

message 31: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Hmmm this is a tough call. I got to say I prefer some of Meg's movies better but I have seen them interviewed and I like Sandra much more 'as herself', as much as you can know an actual celebrity. She seems very cool and down to earth (and then there is Jesse :) ). That is almost a toss up, but I gotta go with Sandra by a hair, of which they both have great!.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sally wrote: "Jackie! Sandra Bullock is not better than Meg Ryan!"

Yes, she is, in her accomplishments. She got sick of the romantic comedies they kept putting her in, and went and did her own stuff, which is cool.

Where IS Meg Ryan these days, anyways?

Apparently off getting collagen injected into her face.

message 34: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Lips.

message 35: by Phil (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Ew. Nobody meant for it to go there. Now I'm thinking about Meg Ryan having icky, graphic sex with Mark Ruffalo in that deeply uncomfortable thriller from about 8 years ago.

message 37: by Mary (last edited Mar 13, 2010 09:53AM) (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Mark Ruffalo was hot in that movie.

Back on topic, Jon Gosselin is yucky. I'm embarrassed to wear my Ed Hardy flip flops because of him.

message 38: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Sally, I think a lot of the men had definitely meant for it, and already taken it there, and now you have given them new fodder to youtube haha.

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori Meg has had soooo much plastic surgery she looks terrible these days.

Speaking of Jon Gosselin, the famewhore Kate is now on DWTS. Practice 8 hours a day, and more, I see she really wants to spend time with her kids.

message 40: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I think that there should be a new service provided to Hollywood stars. I'd move out there and charge them hundreds of dollars by the hour to consult when they don't need any more plastic surgery.

message 41: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Dancing With The Stars. One of those "reality" shows that is slowly eroding literacy in America.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I know I shouldn't, but I love Dancing With the Stars. It's this great combination of really bad dancing that is so fun to laugh at (and be grateful it's not ME out there), over the top dance outfits, and some truly fantastic dancing.
I just try to tune out the announcer guy and his lame pleasantries.

message 43: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) For shame Jackie! And you a librarian!! I am truly shocked.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments What?! Why are you shocked, Mary? Librarians can have senses of humor, too. :)

message 45: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I'm kidding ya, Jackie.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh! Well, okay then, Mary! :)

Cool! I like the idea of that.
And it is probably even better than going over to Front Range Community College because I'm sure these people are much more gorgeous than your average Fort Collinser.
