A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray might be something you are interested in. I personally love the series. A group of teenage girls boarding school with the heroine coming into the discovery that she has mystic powers. There is a little romance in the series but not the prominent storyline. I'm pretty sure you will like it.

I really enjoyed Cecilia Dart-Thornton's Bitterbynde trilogy, even though there was more magic in it than I usually enjoy.
It's quite long for a young teen, but really, it was an amazing series.
One of my son's ordered it from the library & when I had nothing available, I picked it up & was hooked! I was actually in the middle of finishing a large sewing order & couldn't read it every day, so I ordered the tapes (I "read" it more than 10 years ago & still remember it.) and listened to the entire set twice!

The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black. 3 book series. I read this when I was 12, so definitely no sex. There is magic-like stuff happening called glamour. THOUGH, There is a FF relationship, but it isn't the focal point. There is at least 1 sex scene, but it isn't explicit. There also is violence, but it isn't excessive or sickening.


The Caraval series by Stephanie Garber- Also 3 books. Magic included! One character is briefly implied to be gay, but that isn't a main focus. There's no sex, and there is no excessive violence.

More of an MG read, but Keeper of the Lost Cities. Has magic-like elements and quests.

How about some Magician: Apprentice, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, or The Eye of the World?

Or on the more MG side, some The Ruins of Gorlan or Fablehaven

I definitely second Madiha's recs on The Folk of the Air trilogy, beginning with The Cruel Prince, and the Caraval trilogy. They're both really good! In fact, those two are on my top favorites list!

I would also recommend looking into Shielded. It's a duology, and although there is some romance (but no sex), it is by no means a romance novel. I just finished it, and I really liked it!

I'd also recommend checking out this link. It will take you to a topic I started, looking for "wholesome" YA books. I've gotten some pretty good recs, and I think you could find some too!

Pretty much anything by Tamora Pierce.
The Gregor the Overlander series is middle grade but it fit your other specifications. The first book is Gregor the Overlander and the series is by Suzanne Collins (yes, that Suzanne Collins.)
There is also the Twelve Kingdoms series by Fuyumi Ono, but only the first few books have been translated. The first book is The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadow.
