Hello and welcome to another Sunday evening.

Okay then, Fishy Jim provides the next theme; and unlike as in the heading which i had to truncate it to fit the character limit, here it is in full:

'High dynamism - a song which features a moment which particularly stands out. It could be just be an instrumental 'sting' or phrase, a dramatic pause followed by an explosive continuation, or a sudden change of direction - an audio 'handbrake turn' if you will. An example of a dynamic moment is the drum fill from Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight'

I'm not sure, but this one feels a little deja vu to me, i could've sworn we did something similar to this, not all that long ago...but i could be wrong.

Anyhoo..your offerings and links if your please, thank you.

And as ever i shall be back on Wednesday as usual. See ya then.

Fishy_Jim | 1287 comments To Duke's point, previously I think we did one with sudden stops (which would also fit into this theme), but this includes other sudden changes.
To Brass neck's enquiry - I'd say the pause and change in direction, plus the way the final note is left hanging is sufficiently dynamic to qualify.
I'm assuming that Tech is considering the acapella bit to be the dynamic point. I'll go with that.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments How about Lionel Richie's "Ooo" followed by the solo in the Commodore's Easy?
How about the two note "Some call me Maurice" wolf whistle slide in Steve Miller's The Joker?
How about that brief bit in Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower with the slide(?) moving up and down the neck to create a swooping sound?
How about the end of Rush's 2112 where a voice booms "Attention all planets of the solar system; we have assumed control, we have ......."?
Johnny Greenwood's chunka chunka riff before the chorus in Radiohead's Creep has to be a contender?

I have to say that I really struggled to find a nomination for this theme. I'm sure I've been stopped in my tracks many a time by something amazing in a song, but I could only think of two songs - one nobody here would give the time of day to and the other has been nominated that many times that everyone would boycott it for just that reason. So I hope this is okay (if not, I'll go back to the drawing board and try again) - even if it is also well known. It's a slightly hippy-ish sweet ballad and then, during the bridge, the electric guitar suddenly soars (around 3:52) to another planet. And if that's not enough, it's followed by a sax solo before the vocals return.

Regarded by more than one band member as perhaps the finest piece they ever recorded, it's a hard choice to nail down any particular dynamic moment in 'Awaken' as the whole song is filled with them; from Jon Anderson's first entry, floating over the music (0:42) to Steve Howe's descending guitar figure (beginning at 1:34) and Jon's answering ascending vocal line (from 2:00) to Steve's solo (from 2:49) etc. Then there's the quiet, reflective central section from 6:34 to 10:35, featuring the percussion section on (not sure which) high pitched tubular bells or finger cymbals, which is succeeded by Rick's church organ section , and the 'like the time I ran away' vocal beginning at 14:37 with the drum rolls after the 15:00 mark, ending with Steve's guitar close at 15:18. Just magic.

Some of those are valid. The Commodores 'Ooo' is a definite yes. Not so much the Joker wolf whistle, because it flows with the song, rather than punches out from it.

I'm not hearing a sudden dramatic change here, Helen. it just seems to shift into a quieter section for three minute or so.

Actually i believe i was thinking of Tech's nom Theme 249 - "Your Dennis Hopper Moment", which to me at least, had a similar feel to this one. But no matter...it's good to recycle old stuff! ;-)

There's quite a few songs i've previously nominated before that could fit this theme....so maybe i could take the recycling factor up a gear?

I suppose it's a question of interpretation. What I had in mind was a sudden dynamic moment or change rather than just a transition. Something that just leaps out and grabs your attention.

To me, that's not a dynamic moment, it's a stylistic change. I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have tried this theme. What I had in mind and how it has been interpreted are quite different.

Sorry Jim, I'm being utterly dim as usual but I have no idea what you're really after. I have even listened to the track you have nominated (three times!) and the part you have highlighted wouldn't have stood out to me at all if you hadn't pointed it out. I obviously don't hear what you're hearing. To me, it's just an integral part of that song. :-(

What about a dire, but mercifully short, cheesy guitar solo that spoils a song?

Or a v slight lull followed by a lovely, but sadly short, jangly guitar solo?

What about someone howling/screaming?

Sorry to be a pain.

You're absolutely right. Sometimes I wonder if the poster has read the theme in detail. I have often refrained from giving points to a song I like because I felt it didn't fit the theme it was supposed to be referring to. But, I still think the winner is likely to be the track most posters like rather than the one that best fits the theme. Unfortunate, but true.
