M.A. A. McCrackin | 17 comments I’m scrolling my library and I realize I have 0 indie books listed. I primarily blame this on audible, but it’s also my fault because I go for the easy picks and don’t hunt deeply on Amazon. Being a struggling indie author I realized what a hypocrite that makes me. Sooooooo,, help me better myself with suggestions. I’m not looking for free books. I will buy whatever captivates my attention. I also make no promises that I will read everything that is listed.

I prefer fantasy books. I’m not much of a sci-fi reader. I love world building. Immerse me in a new interesting setting please! Unique magic is a bonus, but very hard to accomplish in a genre as saturated as fantasy. If you have managed it, bravo, LEMME SEE!, if not I completely sympathize. I don’t have much time to read, but I promise I will leave a rating when finished.... now what do you all have to offer?

Not sure I posted this thread in the right category, but I wanted to make sure it was safe for authors to comment.

Tomas Grizzly | 448 comments I have a 170k-word coming-of-age fantasy with a sprinkle of romance and a focus on parent-son relationships while the general main theme is Shadow-vs-Light. Feel free to ask me about more about it, here or by personal message, or just look it up on my profile. It's on Amazon for $4.04, but if that's too much for you, I have a discount scheduled for the next month.
Or, if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for free!

Side-note: there's one explicit... intimate scene, so if that's an issue for you, now you know.

Also, I am still a reader more than an author. You can browse my GR shelves, I read plenty of self-published books, so maybe you'll find something among my favorites.

M.A. A. McCrackin | 17 comments I bought them both. Give me a week or two and I’ll leave a rating or review. Ty both

Lynne Armstrong-Jones | 2 comments Applause to you for supporting indie authors!

I have 2 books on the market -- On the Trail of the Ruthless Warlock (book 1 of the series) and On the Trail of the Wind's Tears (book 2). Personally, I think the second one is the stronger. I'm the type who learns by doing ... unfortunately, this is a slow way to learn!

You can find them most easily on amazon.

I can use any help I can get!

John Siers | 256 comments Well, I mostly write SF of the military space-opera genre, but I've recently gotten hooked up with Chris Kennedy Publishing -- Chris started as an indie himself and has built a publishing empire that is home to many indie authors. Recently out in the fantasy genre from CKP -- a trilogy that begins with The Watchers of Moniah by Barbara V. Evers, followed by The Watchers in Exile and The Watchers At War. These are billed as "YA" -- but that just means no graphic sex or bloody violence. They are GOOD stories, and a little different from the usual fantasy.

Now if you are into modern Urban Fantasy with a very different "magic system" there is the Hit World series also from CKP. That one starts with The Trashman by William Alan Webb, followed by A Bullet for the Shooter by Webb and Larry Hoy. No graphic sex in this one but LOTS of VERY GRAPHIC violence, set in the world of today but in an alternate universe. And if you like those two, I've written the third novel in that series -- The Ferryman by... (drum roll) John E. Siers, due to hit Amazon on April 9.

All of these are available on Amazon and free with Kindle Unlimited.

Andres Rodriguez (aroddamonster) | 343 comments I just released a fantasy book about King Arthur. I'd love an honest review and I can email you the book so you do not have to spend any money. If your interested send me a message and I'll exchange emails with you! If your worried about emails, I'll let you know when I get the kindle up for 99c.

If not, Robert J. Power's Spark City is a great indie read! I recommend you that one.

Thanks! And, as I said, feel free to look at my shelves or message me if you want to know what my favorite hidden gems are.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1222 comments I'm small press, if that fits into your category!

I have both science fiction and fantasy titles. The sci-fi has huge glow in the dark cats, with some significant world building (I like to think). It's pretty light planet based sci-fi.

The fantasy is based around a young woman joining a religious order.

Aino Lahteva | 4 comments Hi M.A.,

Have you ever read anything from a Finnish fantasy writer? It's also indie so you'd be trying 2 news things :) (It's been professionally edited by a native English editor.) The book is called "Strands of Existence 1: Island Girl". It's in the epic fantasy / sword and sorcery category with some romance. I've been told it reads a little like an adventure or mystery as the plot unfolds and that it has good characterizations. If you'd like something that has fantasy, magic, romance, adventure, gods, an ancient witch queen, soul searching, philosophy, and a pig-headed but likable protagonist, give it a go :)

message 13: by Gary (new)

Gary Stringer Hi M.A.

Allow me to throw Shifting Stars onto the pile. It has been described as An "exciting" and "fast paced short read". With a magic system that is "creative and quite unique".

It follows the early adventures of a young half-Faery girl exploring her magical gifts in the wake of a devastating attack from a malevolent monster. Thrills, danger and humour abound in a plot full of ridiculous radical plans.

Carro | 216 comments Well - I rather like They Called Me Dragon: A Narrative Account of My Adventures on the Planet Earth. Technically it's sf but reads like fantasy - an alien professor of geology coming to Earth to recuperate after a nasty accident. Roughly medieval period and roughly Switzerland - he looks like a large dragon and but trundles around being professorish and interfering when he shouldn't. So not actually any magic, but still fun.

The Voyages of Cinrak the Dapper - tales of a lesbian capybara pirate - they are glorious. Happy, quirky, different and one or two complete snort moments. More of a magical world than a lot of active magic working by the main character.

I'm going to put in a little plug for my other half's urban fantasy - with the warning that it is dark. Energetically dark, nasty sense of humour, definitely different sorts of magic, thunders along
The first book starts "Everyone has their demons, but I get mine wholesale" Hell of a Deal

message 15: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) There is an anthology that started in this group: Writers in Lockdown
If you like sci-fi there's another anthology: The Dragon's Rocketship Presents: The Ship's Log
And if you like horror: Sins of the Future
