message 71: by Candice (new)

Candice | 81 comments It is honestly one of the most heartfelt book I have ever read. It's so full of raw and powerful emotion. I swear I never knew about this book before. Even though it hurts to read some parts I'm glad I am. The story is so enveloping. 1000% must read. And I can tell you right now that will be my review when I am done.

message 74: by Donna (new)

Donna (specialangel) | 16 comments I read Letters Home and posted reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I looked on B&N but it isn't listed. Here is a copy of my review.

Danielle and Nate met their Jr year of HS. They fell in love and are still together 9 years later. Danielle has become a Family Law Attorney and Nate is an Army Ranger. They get married 2 weeks before he is deployed. Although their love has been like a fairy tale, real life has a way of intruding and destroying happily ever afters.

Five months after Danielle's world is destroyed she meets Tanner, a friend and medic from Nate's unit. Danielle and Nate form a bond as they help each other deal with the aftermath of Nate's death and put their lives back together. Can they find their way to HEA?

This is a very moving, heart-wrenching story. It also is uplifting and shows the power of love. I loved all of the characters. The women are strong and the men aren't afraid to show emotions--even in front of and with each other. True men, in my opinion. The powerful bonds of family, and friends who are like family, are an important part of the story. I was pleased with the realistic portrayal of all the characters. Each one felt like someone I would be honored to have in my life.

There were quite a few spelling and grammar errors in the story. The end of the story was a little confusing because at first Nate is home and then he hadn't made it home from Afghanistan. I also felt that Danielle fell in love a little too quickly after losing Nate but that is just my opinion.

Having said that, I highly recommend this book. I have already bought the novella, Coming Home, that continues the story of Danielle and Nate.

4.5 Stars

message 91: by Donna (new)

Donna (specialangel) | 16 comments I know Coming Home isn't a Feb book but it is the follow-up to Letters Home. I would like to encourage those who read Letters to read it.

Coming Home by Rebecca Brooke
2-8-15

This novella picks up where Letters Home ended. It continues the story of Danielle and Tanner as they work through grief and guilt towards a HEA.

I liked the story. It stayed true to the characters as they were portrayed in Letters Home. This story isn't nearly as emotionally charged as Letters Home. I found that to be a good thing. It meant Danielle's life was moving back toward 'normal'.

I had really hoped Tanner would leave the Army. Danielle's fears when he was deployed weren't the normal fears of an army spouse. They were so much more intense. I think, out of love, Tanner could have found a civilian job when his hitch was up. That is just my opinion not a dig at the story.

If you have read Letters Home, I highly recommend Coming Home.

5 Stars
