This well-done graphic novel continues the story of students at the esteemed Riverdale Academy Day School. "New Kid" focused on Jordan the budding artist/cartoonist. This book features Jordan's friend Drew who has become increasingly aware of the different way he and other students of color are viewed by staff and other students. Jordan lives in a 2-parent home and is driven to school by his father every day. Drew lives with his grandmother who is constantly working to provide for herself and her grandson. His route to school involves 2 city buses. On the other hand, Drew and Jordan's friend Liam is one of the wealthier children who lives in a huge mansion and is driven to school by the family chauffeur. Drew has begun to resent the privileges of Liam's life and their friendship suffers. Jordan, the sweet-natured buffer between his two estranged friends, wants to heal the pain of both boys but is unsure how to proceed. Then he has a great idea: let both of the boys see exactly how the other lives. It could be a game-changer or a complete disaster.
I enjoyed both of these excellent graphic novels. The drawings are so well done and the messages delivered are spot on.
