She shook her head. "I can't. Not looking like this,"

He nodded. "Yeah, for a about a month now."

Shane smiles "I'll buy you some clothes. My treat"

Alanna turns red "oh"

"I have my own clothes. Just not here." She told him

"You alright?"

Shane smiles "okay. Let's go to your place then"

Alanna nods quietly "y-yeah"

She nodded and walked away.


He nodded and stood up, discarding his cigar.

Shane followed her.

Alanna stood up "is she poor?"

She walked ahead of him down a few busy streets.


"Of course not." He scoffed.

Shane followed quickly

Alanna frowned "would you be courting someone who's poor?"

She stopped in front of an old building. "Stay out here."


"Listen, I can't be thinking about courting other girls while I'm courting one." He said.

Shane nodded

Alanna looked at her feet "sorry" she mumbled

Aurora left him outside then came back out wearing a proper blouse and skirt and her hair tied up.

"Don't worry about it."

Shane smiked "awesom"

She gives him a small look then she took and apple out of her basket

"Shall we go?" She said


"Why are you selling apples on the streets?" She asked.

She gulped "well, I didn't want to tell you, but I'm poor"

She nodded


He laughed. "I guessed that."

Shane smilrd and led her to a place

Alanna pursed her lips "what's that supposed to mean"

Aurora held her chin up and walked with him.


"You're selling apples on the side of the road."

Shane smiled at her.

Alanna told him the truth "I could have just been doing that to talk to you!" She snaps

She then kept her face low as she passed by s group of familiar men.


"Why would you have to act to talk to me?" He asked

Shane looked at her "are you okay?
She looks at him "because you're all proper and stuff. I'm not."

"Yeah...." She cleared her throat.


"You don't have to pretend, ma' lady."

Shane raised an eyebrow "really?"

She looks up in tears " yes I did. I thought you were cute and I wanted to become friends then maybe more." She chokes. She runs away

"I just knew them, that's all." She admitted.


He opened his mouth to speak but shut it, watching her leave.

How?" He says

She sits on a stone step crying

"Guess." She smirked


He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked down the street.

He blushes "oh, you, oh"

Alanna sees him walking down her street and keeps crying

"Mhm." She sighed.


Liam noticed familiar black hair walking in the distance. "Aurora!" He called.

He sighs. "Who's that" he whispers to Aurora
She watches him run to the girl

Aurora looked behind her and smiled. "Hey Liam." She hugged him close.

"God, I haven't seen you in almost a year!" Liam laughed and rubbed her back.

Shane stands awkwardly to the side
Alanna watches, tears in his eyes

Aurora pulled away from Liam and touched his face. "You haven't changed a day!"

Liam chuckled. "Neither have you."

"Oh! Sorry, shane, this is my dearest friend Liam." She introduced him.

Liam smiled. "Nice to meet you."

Shane smiled "I'm shane"
Alanna watches with envy

Aurora put an arm around Liam's waist. "Liam and I go way back."

Liam nodded. "We went to the same orphanage. From there we swore to never lose touch."

Shane nodded "awesome."
Alanna stares

"He was the first man I ever got the pleasure of courting." She said.

"But it never worked out. It was fun though." He smiled.

Shane stiffled a laugh

Alanna walks over to Shane "me and Shane go way back to. We were kids together"

Aurora checked out the new girl and pursed her lips. "And you are?"

Liam cleared his throat. "This is Alanna."

Shane looks at Alanna "yeah, we grew up together until her mom died."

Alanna nods sadly

"What happened to her?" Aurora asked.

Alanna's voice cracks "she died of a unexpected heart attack"

"That's.....unfortunate." Aurora wiggled her nose.

Liam frowned. "I'm sorry."

Alanna nodded "its okay"
Shane went silent

Liam looked intently at Aurora, both exchanging a look as if they were talking to one another with their eyes.

Shane looked at Alanna
Alanna stared back

Aurora nodded at Liam, who cleared his throat and shoved his hands into his pockets. "So..."
