Despite having no track and field ability whatsoever, there has always been an inner desire to wonder the lives of the fastest. Yet although these men have trained for hours, days and years to earn their titles, the humanity they share has led them on to altogether different paths. Some are extremely fit and an example to our youth, like Harrison Dillard and Lindy Remigino(both sadly passed away in recent times) and Valery Borzov. Some got drawn up to their fame, and led their lives in sad times, such as Bob Hayes and Percy Williams. Others had a combination. Yet each story of these special individuals is unique, and interesting as we divide a look into some of the most special people in the world.

To me, it was another captivating book, as we really understand the complexities of these sprinties. I particularly lack how the press slowly but surely gets involved and influences these champions, for good or worse. You also learn about how in some years, there may have been better, or faster sprinters on the sideline but ultimately we only remember those who came away with the gold. Percy williams particularly stood out to me, a sad man who hated fame and ultimately an example of how bitterness can kill a person.

I loved this book, it drew me in, and added to the ever growing number of reasons of why I will probably never accomplish anything noteworthy.
