As a Pakistani- American, cricket was always ingrained in my brain yet I never took any interest in the matter. So to gain further knowledge, I read this book. More than a history of Pakistani cricket, the book is essentially a history of Pakistan in itself. The ups, the downs, and the corruption and the traditions that has essentially rendered Pakistan unable to captilize on its high end talent. The book talks at first about the legendary 1953 series of England that put Pakistan on the global map. The high of winning the 1992 world cup, and the lows of the Cort of Qayyam match-fixing scandal.

Pakistan, as a whole, is a very inconsistent country, with religious and tradition frequently being used to impose people into one soulless lifestyle. Cricket binds everyone together and can be used as a political market. Our current prime minister, Imran Khan, captained the 1992 world cup winning team. I feel like this book contained a lot, but its writer Osman as a big journalist in line with the team. It has to kept in mind that for all that was kept in, there most have been loads of information that was kept out.

Maybe I’m baised. Maybe this review was just a rant. Regardless, I Left the book as I started, with the same indifference and seething dislike for cricket I started with.
