Samuel (libraryosouls) | 20 comments beginning was boring, then it felt like a weird fanfic written by a teenage girl with the whole "if you fuck me one more time I will leave you alone" thing + how sexual it was. Now that I think about how it was written by a man I feel a bit icky. I like the fact that it was a cult plot twist, but thats about it. I was so annoyed at the fact that the main chatacter was suspicious about how there were no women? I feel like thats such a huge stretch. or that there were a lot of staff? who...cares? i dont think anyone in that situation would notice anything about that and there could be SO many more suspicious things but the author chose..lack of women lol. I also always hate epilogues after thrillers. so 1-2 stars

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) | 43 comments I was very underwhelmed even though this last section was by far the best of the book. Meh. 2.5 stars (for the absolute insanity that was the plot twist)

Ina (inawillems) | 15 comments I gave this book 4 stars ⭐
I enjoyed the writing and the build-up in this book. The twists were predictable, but I don't mind, the only surprising twist was the fake murder performance. I don't understand the plan? They kidnapped the women, scare them by stabbing them with a fake knife and then what? What was the plan?

Karen V | 6 comments Let's just say that I left my book at work and had to go back for it because I needed to learn how it ended and I didn't want to have to wait until I went back to work in a few days to find out.
I had a love/meh relationship with the book. I loved it while I was reading it but once I put it down I had a hard time motivating myself to pick it back up again. Though this could just be because I'm in a slump right now (thanks House of Leaves).
I did find the twists were predictable (besides the cult, didn't see that coming) but I'm not mad about it. Bruce was a creep and so were his friends.
This was the first book I read from Peter Swanson and would be open to reading more in the future.
Overall I gave the book 4 stars.

Sally (sallysimply) | 21 comments Ugh, I am on the verge of DNFing this but haven't fully decided yet. Part of me just wants to switch to 2x speed and power through for what I hope is an ending of the best friend coming to save the day.

I am SOOOOOO tired of thrillers where the whole thing is just "the husband is abusive" or "the men hate women." Because I thought that's where this was going, I was eager to see if it was something else instead. Now I know it's not, and I'm just rolling my eyes at every other sentence.

I'm gonna go read Night of the Mannequins now, which I assume I will enjoy much more.

Sally (sallysimply) | 21 comments I finished it. I think I hated it.

I liked the build-up fine, I liked the references to movie classics just fine, I did not like the "twist." It just feels so cheap and boring to me. The pay-off is not worth it.

I'll probably give it 1.5 stars? It was a solid 3 or 3.5 until around chapter 21 because I kept thinking that surely there would be more to this than "an island of men who hate and punish women" and then that's what it was and I never got over it.

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) | 43 comments That's how I felt too. I was stuck between 2 and 2.5 and somehow I rationalized that as a three. I think I'm gng back to 2.5

Alesha (musicgal17) | 46 comments I'm a bit late to the party, as I just finished this, but I'm rating it 3.5 stars.

The most predictable element of this book to me was "Scottie" being hired to test Abigail's loyalty at her bachelorette party. Like, come on, we know that Bruce has trust issues from the get-go. Nothing too shocking from my POV.

I liked the ending, but didn't love it. A lot of things were left unexplained, and it all felt a bit chaotic and rushed.

I've read The Kind Worth Killing and gave it 4 stars. I'm still open to reading a few of Swanson's other books in the future.

Pandaaaaaa (pandaaaaaaaa) 2.5 stars.
The first 180 pages were a drag and could have been cut down by atleast 80 pages. The characters and plot line was really predictable like when she was recounting the cheating scene, it was kinda obvious that this was going to be one of those "partner pays to test s.o for loyalty" plot.
The "thrill" part actually began around 220 pages in when Jill knocks on Abigail's window for help and from there the last hundred or so pages, the pace quickened.
Although I'm kinda disappointed that it was a happy ending of sorts, I really would've liked it more if Abigail hadn't survive the situation.
