Haha. I totally get you. Even I feel the compulsion to own every pretty edition of my favorites :)

I have heard of Nalini Singh though never read anything from her. You seem to be a big fan of hers. So what genre are these books exactly? Fantasy romance or contemporary ones?
My list of book bfs is too long but on the top of it is Kaladin from the Stormlight Archive. He doesn't even hav a romance arc in the books but I love him so much. I was really obsessed with him while reading the series.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments She writes paranormal romance with her Psy-changeling books. But that feels so basic. What makes that series amazing is the high concept and expert skill of her world building. Not even high concept fantasy can best it. Or sci-fi. It does have a new couple each book, but the grand scope of the ideas and stories behind it are world changing. Her characters are so rich and vibrant. I love how unique each one is. Not to mention friendships and found family are very powerful themes. Her Guild Hunter books are more Urban Fantasy, and she's now writing some vcontemporary murder mysteries.

Ah, Sanderson. I bought his books when Mistborn came out and I keep buying them. I have his Skyward (Skyward, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Starsight (Skyward, #2) by Brandon Sanderson books coming in the mail. I have never read anything by him, but it's funny I might read Skyward first!! Ha-ha!

Oooo paranormal. I have never read anything paranormal. This would seem a good place to start. Sanderson is my favorite author and I pretty much own all the books by him. He usually writes adult fantasy but skyward was his first YA work. Read skyward and liked it. I am yet to read Starsight.

What!!? Just kidding. I'm a paranormal and Urban Fantasy junkie. The Psy-Changeling books are classified as Paranormal Romance. So each book gets a new couple lead.

I feel bad that I keep putting off Sanderson's work. It's odd because I watch his interviews, classes, and lessons. His books I just won't pick up! I know I'm going to love them!

Erica | 1309 comments Okay Shera what's besides psy changling series, which I've only read a short story from, what's a urban fantasy book/series I need to read?

message 73: by Arundhati (new)

Arundhati | 1454 comments Most people are intimidated by the sheer size of his books. Like none of his books àre less than 700pgs and he does such elaborate world building. But I have to say he writes the best endings. I usually end up either so high and pumped up or crying my eyes after reading. I hope you like it when you read them Shera :)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments Erica wrote: "Okay Shera what's besides psy changling series, which I've only read a short story from, what's a urban fantasy book/series I need to read?"

Most of her shorts for the series require you already know characters are invested. So I don't think that's the best start.

Urban Fantasy:
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance Nightlife (Cal Leandros #1) by Rob Thurman Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop The Better Part of Darkness (Charlie Madigan, #1) by Kelly Gay Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead Chase the Dark (Steel & Stone, #1) by Annette Marie

First are adult and then YA. That should give you a starting point.

To be honest I don't care about page numbers. As long as the story is well paced and the page count utilized properly. Sounds like Sanderson makes you get the feels! I've watched interviews where he talks about how he "doesn't feel emotions" like everyone else, so he writes and reads to create them. It was so interesting. Maybe that's why I always hear about how powerful his works can be.

I just got done with a brillaint portal fantasy that I LOVED! Bound to the Battle God (Aspect and Anchor #1) by Ruby Dixon Over 600 pages well done.

Then you are gonna love his work. He writes some really complex and layered characters. It's just ❤. I love big books too. What's a portal fantasy? Like characters getting transferred to some other dimension or such? Never heard of it before.

Arundhati | 1454 comments I have !!! I really loved The Kiss quotient but can't say the same for The Bride Test. But I would say she is a great author and writes really good books. Rushali do give The Kiss Quotient a try if you are looking for a steamy romance with an absolutely adorable hero and a totally dorky heroine.

Yes!!! I own his Stormlight books in ebook form so that I don't have to worry about size! And wieght!

Yeah. Portal fantasy is someone from our world gets transported to another world/realm. Like Narnia. I'm a huge fantasy reader so sometimes I forget others don't know all the terms.

Like a lot of anime is portal fantasy. And Asian dramas in general. I think that's why I like them so much!

message 98: by Arundhati (new)

Arundhati | 1454 comments Ya those are the starting series for the Shadowhunter books. She has written different seried within the same world. The one Erica mentioned is the Mortal Instruments. Then there is the Infernal Devices, Dark Artifices and The Last Hours. Personally I have just read TID and TMI out of which I would higly recommend The Infernal Devices❤

message 99: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments So the first series she wrote was the Immortal Instruments

City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire

Prequel series The Infernal Devices

Clockwork Angel
Clockwork Prince
Clockwork Princess

Spin-off series The Dark Artifices

Lady Midnight
Lord of Shadows
Queen of Air and Darkness

The Bane Chronicles

There is many more books set in this world. Hope this helps.
