Hi everyone,

A kind reminder, if you are joining us for The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai Messina, we do have a copy available online at the MPC Library.

Yui was a host on a radio talk show. She listened to the many listeners who shared their stories about lost loved ones and how they coped and moved forward with life after loss.

While Yui anticipated stories of complete sadness, many were not and callers would share what lifted them up when feeling down. Some found relief in cooking, petting dogs, cats and ferrets. One woman studied French, hearing her voice speak another language made her feel different. One man had lost his wife in the tsunami and shared the story of the phone booth in a garden in the middle of nowhere. Speaking on the disconnected phone made him feel like himself. He even read Peter Pan to his grandson, and like Peter Pan, he was trying to get his shadow back.

Yui decides to go find that garden and phone booth and find some relief, like others have tried.

Yui's Radio Show Playlist (for that evening):

Fakear-"Jonnhae Pt. 2"
Hans Zimmer "Time"
Plaid, "Melifer"
Agnes Obel, "Stone"
Sakamoto Ky-"I Look up as I Walk"
The Cinematic Orchestra "Arrival of the Birds & Transformation"
Max Richter "Mrs. Dalloway: In the Garden"
Vance Joy "Call If You Need Me."

Memories of trying to find her mother and daughter will come back to Yui as she is traveling to the garden. Will she be able to handle the heaviness of those memories and make her destination?

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

-Donna
