Bob G (neverlost) Newly retired, one of my passions is reading. I have carved out very little time for other things like TV. So for me, retirement gives me time enough to do the reading I want.

I did notice a marathon "Twilight Zone" session on one of the channels a few weeks ago so I set my DVR to record them all. Every once in a while I will sit down and watch a couple of them. In Season 1, Episode 8 sounded interesting: Time Enough At Last.

I just read the rules of this forum and it says "NO SPOILERS. None. Period. Be warned: this post has a spoiler about a TV show that aired years ago. Stop reading now if you don't want to know anything about it!

SPOILER ALERT

If you have a chance to see the whole episode, I recommend it. If not, below is a synopsis of the episode and a YouTube video that shows the last 3 minutes of the episode.

SPOILER STARTS HERE

Harry Bemis is a bank teller who loves to read. He almost loses his job because of it. His wife does not allow him to read at all at home. He decides to read during his lunch break at the bank, in the bank vault. He also happens to see a newspaper headline saying something like: H BOMB CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THE WORLD.

While reading in the vault, something like an earthquake seems to happen, and he is knocked unconscious. After he wakes up he sees that the bank is destroyed as are his home and the city he lives in. While he finds food, he can't find enough reading to occupy himself. He also can't find anyone else that has survived. He despairs and contemplates suicide with a gun he finds.

SPOILER IS IMMEDIATELY NEXT ...

Linda | 322 comments I remembered which episode you were talking about, but it took me until 1:20 into the video to actually remember what happens at the end.

Good ol' Twilight Zone.

His glasses were predominant throughout the episode. Prior to him finding the public library I was thinking that maybe he would find a library. Bingo. Once he stacked up the books I thought same as you: He'd better cover them up. By that time I totally forgot about the glasses!

I think these little dramas are quite good. I almost never figure out how it's going to end, until the end.

Yes, sighs. Now that I am retired and have "time enough" for reading I sometimes ponder what I would do if I lost my sight. Luckily these days there are technological solutions to that.
