Boss Level is a 2021 action movie that stars Frank Grillo.
This movie uses the same, typical trope in Hollywood of someone living through the same day over and over again, but makes it a lot more violent and I'm here for it. The action sequences throughout the movie were all top tier and very enjoyable to watch as this guy lives through people killing him in the exact same or similar ways day after day, until he's able to train and ends up beating them instead.
It's not only the action, but also the heartwarming/wrenching moments that made me enjoy the movie. Frank Grillo really sells the performance and was a total boss no matter what was required. His scenes with his kid and the scenes with his ex-wife were entrancing and brought the emotion.
My only qualm with the movie is the ending. It's left on an open-note and the story doesn't totally feel resolved, but I think it works considering he's been reliving the same day for a long time. It is very abrupt though and feels as if the movie is ending right as it hits the climax.
I'd give this movie an 7/10. It's a reused style of storytelling, but it was made super fresh and I loved it.
