Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Hi Stacie,

Some recommendations for books set outside US/UK/NZ/AUS. trying to base them on your preferred genres, but I have to admit they're not ones I read much of!

The Little Café in Copenhagen (Romantic Escapes, #1) by Julie Caplin this one starts and ends in the UK, but the majority of it takes place in Copenhagen. It's a light, fluffy romance, which I enjoyed despite it not being my usual kind of read!

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee - Set in Japan and Korea. Very well-written story that spans several generations.

The Power of One (The Power of One, #1) by Bryce Courtenay - An absolutely stunning book set in South Africa.

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami - Magical realism in Japan. I loved this one, but be warned it can be a little... odd... :)

Circe by Madeline Miller - Greek mythology, beautifully told.

Nation by Terry Pratchett - Historical YA by none other than Terry Pratchett (not a Discworld book!).

August 6 is the wedding date. Planning a wedding during Covid has been a true challenge. Their venue is gorgeous, atop the mountain of Crested Butte! The problem is that in Colorado Covid mandates are based on the county and Crested Butte couty is extremely conservative. The numbers allowed in attendance keep changing even though it's an outside wedding. First they told her 150, then 100 and now only 50 people allowed. We have had to disinvite family members and now we have to narrow it down even further. I keep telling her there are worse things, but at 34 years old and finally finding her true love after being in tons of weddings (and dating a few toads over the years), it's a harsh reality and very stressful for a normally laid back daughter. It will all work out, of course, and she has found such a terrific, kind man! That's all that matters and we are very excited for them!

Nanci | 2567 comments Question for Vicki...how did you make your link go directly to your message? I'd love to be able to do that! I only know to copy the page link. TIA!

message 168: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Nanci, you would do it like this. Copy your page link and then you would type this. I've put * in so you can see what to type but you would remove those.

<*a href="paste your link here"<*/a>type what you want the link to say, like Vicki did with message 78<*/a>

message 169: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Hey Stacie,
Thanks for your help. I've tried a bunch of times, but still not working. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong with your great directions.
Here's what I did:
I put in the less than sign and then typed a href=. I then pasted my link and typed the less than sign along with forward slash a and greater than sign. I then put the less than sign typed in Message 48 and typed in forward slash a and then greater than sign.

I hope that makes sense! Learning these things are so much easier to actually have a live conversation! Anyway, if you've patience enough to let me know what I did wrong that would be great!

message 170: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Did you put the quotation marks in?

I'm happy to help! If you show me what you are seeing, I can certainly try to help you get it right!

message 171: by Eldarwen (new)

Actually, sorry Stacie ;-)

<*a href="paste your link here"*>type what you want the link to say, like Vicki did with message 78<*/a>

The <*/a> only comes at the end. It's a simply > before you type what you want the link to say.

Maybe the problem is with where you're getting the link from?

Right-click on the time stamp of your message. Then choose "copy link" and that is the link you're going to insert between the a href and all the <> signs. Not forgetting the ".

Eta: the time stamp is on the top right of your comment.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I liked it! In a weird twist, I liked it better when the stories were apart. once they meshed, it felt a little clunky but she also wrote a whole standalone high fantasy which isn't easy.
