Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I love team challenges. They always motivate me to read more.
Here in NBRC group I have done Wheelaton, TTVI, Wobble? if I remember quickly.
One of my favorite team challenges is over at the SOS group. I guess I've done their Bingo almost every round and now it's round20.

Am I the only one in team Morelli?
I agree, Ranger is sizzling hot and mysterious but Morelli really loves Stephanie. I don't see Ranger and Stephanie together forever but I can see her with Morelli.
For me, I'd choose Ranger, so go figure :)

Weird, Kulti used to be on KU. Most of her other books are. I'd recommend The Wall of Winnipeg and Me or From Lukov with Love. I double checked and those are still on KU.

These are very slow burn romances and long, especially for romance books.

Lexi | 4254 comments I wanted to add two more recommendations since I like novellas:
Binti: The Complete Trilogy and American Hippo. Both can be read as a single book (and counted for TTs) and are great stories.

message 106: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Oh Binti is awesome series, her newest novella Remote Control was also really good!

message 107: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Time has really disappeared, I had wanted to read Network Effect this past weekend, but I may have to read that this upcoming weekend and catch up with you all and the new book!

message 108: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments Skandia - I'm glad to know someone is rooting for Joe!

Lexi - I'm a definite fan of the Binti books, and of River of Teeth and Taste of Marrow, aka the two parts of American Hippo. Have you read Upright Women Wanted? I enjoyed that one, too. I need to read Magic for Liars, and The Echo Wife is on my radar.

Snowtulip - Yeah, I need to get to Remote Control, too.

I'm assuming that Fugitive Telemetry will hit my Kindle at midnight, but I won't be staying up to read it tonight. :( My work schedule was changed and I'm not off tomorrow, so I guess that means I'll be a responsible person and wait until tomorrow night to read it.....

message 109: by Lexi (last edited Apr 26, 2021 09:22PM) (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments Snowtulip, I have read Remote Control, and really enjoyed it.

Truitt, I have also read Upright Women (not my favorite of theirs) and Magic for Liars. I recommended Echo Wife for the June BOM so holding off on that one for now.

I am first in line for the library ebook copy of Fugitive Telemetry so hoping to read it tomorrow. (I read it on my computer and then send the Kindle version to my mum (Susan). We are sneaky that way). I need to finish a book for UNO, but I may not have the self-control to not read Murderbot. I convinced my sister to read the first one this week (she just started) and she almost never reads speculative fiction, so 4/5 on family reading Murderbot so far.

Edited: I failed self-control already and have read the first chapter. I am now making myself go to bed.

Drop us your book recs on our team thread if you don't mind: thread here

message 111: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments Well drat - no Fugitive Telemetry for me tonight. I'm currently involved in two other games/challenges. I'm still trying to read books with better points for Scavenger Hunt and we're in the last two weeks or so for TART. Usually, I can make books work for both, but not this time. That leaves me reading The Color of Magic tonight (I'll very lucky if I get it finished) and then reading for Scavenger Hunt through Friday (rounds are monthly.) Worst case scenario, I get to it Friday night, or I keep it for my first book for TT.

I hope everyone else is enjoying it!

I believe there is a task involving a hippo if American Hippo appeals to anyone.

Wow, I had a lot to catch up on. Real life and Uno has been consuming a lot of my time due to flaky team members. But only a few more days of Uno and then y'all have my complete challenge attention.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm excited for this to start! I've almost finished everything I've been reading. It's going to be hard to not start anything before it's time, but I have some very short books on my kindle I can read if I need to.

I've been through most of the recommendations from other teams and made a list (I like lists, don't judge) of the books I have or can get a hold of easily. I'm definitely hoping to get a couple of those longer books that have been sitting on my TBR list for years read during this challenge.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I must have missed something about the rules.
What should we do with the recs from other teams?

Lexi | 4254 comments Skandia wrote: "I must have missed something about the rules.

It is just five of the tasks. Feel free to ignore them or read them as you like. I think we won't have an issue as a team reading five books off these lists. It is also a good get to know each other activity for the teams while we wait to start (soon and very soon).

message 119: by Snowtulip (last edited Apr 28, 2021 06:35PM) (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Must say I have been very curious about the American Hippo :)

I'm also trying to finish up some Uno books and it's been insane at work, so my reading has not went as planned this week.

Murderbot is going to have to wait for me, hopefully there are new episodes of Sanctuary Moon to occupy Murderbot in the mean time ;)

Boo, the randomizer was mean and we weren’t picked for DQs for The Foundling. Oh well, maybe next time.

But the breakdown is posted in the BOM thread if people want it to plan. Remember you’ll need to answer 3 sets of questions for participation points. You have until June 2nd (one month from start date) to read the book and answer questions

That's a shame.
I'm ready to start it and as I will be listening to it as an audiobook, I should be able to keep up with the days for this one.
I'm looking forward to participating in my first BOM.

Hello Team The Librarian!

The Luggage is on a strict books only diet at the moment, so please don't let our sudden appearance worry you. First, thank you for stopping by with recommendations. The list looks delicious.

We've put together a buffet of recommended books for your enjoyment.

message 124: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments Coutdown to START (it does seem to overlap with UNO for anyone playing UNO but make sure not to use any books started before then)

Also, does anyone have any questions or concerns about using the tracking spread sheet?

message 125: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I do, actually. How are you linking the book titles to GR? And for the tasks that require spelling out a word, are we using the first letter of the title? If so, are articles considered or dismissed?

I'm not much of a planner with my reading - I'm more spur of the moment. I'll probably add books only as I begin or complete them - is that ok?

message 126: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments To add the link in the spreadsheet, if you right click in the cell a list will apprear. If you go to Insert Link a box will apprear. If you copy the URL link from the book page of the edition you are using and paste it into the second box and then type or paste the title into the first box it should create a link once you hit apply.

This is how I do it, if there is an easier way then I'm sure someone will share.
I hope that helps.

message 127: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Yes, you can certainly add as you go or finish. Most of the ones I’ve added are library books I need to get read right away before I have to return them, the BOM, or for a different challenge.

You can also get the link in by copying linked text from Goodreads and pasting it into the spreadsheet. Example if you go to the My Books page, highlight the book title, copy, then paste it into the spreadsheet. The text format in the spreadsheet might look a bit different, but that doesn’t matter the link will be there.

message 128: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Also if links are giving you fits don’t worry about it. It’s not worth the stress. Lexi, Jen or I can fix it as we check and log books.

This is a fun reading challenge and not meant as a practical exam on using google sheets 🙂

I realized I didn't answer your question about spell outs. You can use title (articles can either be used or ignored), character first and last names, and author first and last names.

Edit: if you are listening to an audiobook or reading a translated book you can also use the narrator or translator's first or last name.

Are you clicking on the team spreadsheet or the tracking spreadsheet?

Only captains and mods can edit the team spreadsheet. This is the official one for points.

The tracking spreadsheet is one you should be able to access.

I’ve been meaning to ask about your name. I’ll get it fixed next time I’m one the computer. You filled in the sign up sheet in an extra special way. 😂

Lexi | 4254 comments Polls are up for the June BOM:

Adult June BOM Poll
YA June BOM Poll

If you are feeling conflicted between the many good choices, Judith and I recommended The Marsh King's Daughter and The Echo Wife for adult and Firekeeper's Daughter and One of the Good Onesfor YA so our team would get an automatic DQ spot.

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1567 comments I’m starting this challenge off with One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston and if any of you read Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston then you need to read this one. It might even be better than RWRB and I would die for that book
