Sorry I missed responding to this earlier. Yes, in this case it's fine.

We are putting out a blanket reminder to all teams that only captains and moderators have access to the official team spreadsheet. Please only use the tracking spreadsheet.

If the spreadsheet says you don't have edit rights please double check to make sure you are in the tracking spreadsheet before requesting access.

If it appears you are having access issues to the tracking spreadsheet, please post in the thread here before submitting an access request.

I don't think any of the requests lately have been coming from our team and everyone seems to be accessing the tracking sheet just fine. But each team is getting a similar reminder just in case.

You started that one before TT so we can't use it but we can use the next one.

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Hey Team! I am back from my road trip-- it was 5 days and I saw a lot of the north east USA (NC to Maine and back, stopping at each state along the way).

I was able to listen to 2 and a half audiobooks during my 2,200 mile drive. I'm glad to be back and have a little down time to read a physical book.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments That sounds wonderful Jen, that's a part of the country I haven't spent much time in but I'm always amazed how green it is. And I completely missed my opportunity to visit friends in Portland, Maine before they moved back here.

Congratulations on your winning selection! I'm looking forward to reading it.
I also think I'll like The Midnight Library, although I confess I voted for The Echo Wife.

Snowtulip,

I think you were gotten by GR gremlins. Your book Return to Sea is on your TT shelf and marked read, but without a read date. When you get a chance, can you add the date?

Thank you!

Skandia,

Which version of Furiously Happy did you read? The english language version you put on the spreadsheet or the non-english version on your shelf? It's okay to have non-english language titles on the spreadsheet. And with a slight difference in page numbers I want to make sure the one you read is the one we use.

Thank you!

As an FYI for everyone- for spell it outs letters come from the version you read, not the english translation if it ever comes up.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Oh no. My library app has The Midnight Library but it's 'on loan' until the 28th August!
And it has Firekeeper's Daughter but only as an ebook. I would probably forget about it though.

I think I have a couple of Audible credits I can use instead for them.

No worries, it can get confusing :) I'll update it and get it logged.

I hope you enjoyed it. I listened to it shortly after it came out and thought it was great. And am happy for her that she found her husband who clearly loves and accepts her for her.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I kind of regret reading Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things in translated version. This is a book you must read in English as so much of the one liners and expressions probably got lost in translation.
Unfortunately it wasn't the best translation but I did enjoy it and yes, her husband was amazing.

During challenges, there are usually more people willing to write DQs than days. So there is a randomized selection of people and it's limited to 1 set of questions per team to keep it fair since it's a lot of bonus points.

If multiple people from the same team volunteer then they can back each other up for question writing. So let's say Lexi is selected to write the second set of DQs for The Midnight Library. But then something in real life comes up and she doesn't have time to write the questions, a back-up can step in and write them instead and the team still gets the points.

If we don't have a second (or more) volunteer(s) to write the questions, if Lexi has to back out, it goes to the next team on the randomized list. Volunteers cannot step up after the randomized list is generated, you have to volunteer at least a few days before the BOM starts.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you haven't done a BOM before, feel free to check out some of the BOM threads. What I said might make more sense with the threads providing a bit of context.

message 225: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Lexi and I tend to back each other up when possible on the DQs. That being said, if any of you want to write DQs if our team is selected (and you've volunteered), we'd be happy to step aside to let you write them.

We just have a tendency to jump on the threads early so we don't forget. But I read The Midnight Library in April so I can't do a reread of it right now for points.

Firekeeper's Daughter is a different situation in that I nominated the book, so I have a guaranteed DQ day.

It’s a sort of subgroup of NBRC where erotica books can be shared and discussed. Because of the content, you have to be 18 years old or older to join and it’s not a public group. Which follows Goodreads rules on erotic content groups.

But it’s usually dormant unless a large team challenge is going on. Once or twice the pick for the BOM was bad. And I mean really bad. Then it kinda became a thing to find a ridiculous book to discuss and be silly.

I think because of a song in Discworld, one involving hedgehog buggery may be picked. Note: no harming of actual hedgehogs, they are hedgehog shifters.

Sorry, missed that earlier. That is fine. You just need to start back at the start again, which with 16 pages is easy. The question sometime come up if someone is half-way and if people really restart but again 16 pages is nothing.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Am I the only one that gets excited when I get library hold books all at once?

I just got
I'm Waiting for You and Other Stories by Kim Bo-young You Are Your Best Thing Vulnerability, Shame Resilience, and the Black Experience by Tarana Burke The Drowned Cities (Ship Breaker, #2) by Paolo Bacigalupi

I'll have to figure out what kind of mood I'm in, has anyone read any of these...if so, which should I read first. It's been a long week, so can't make decisions on my own ;)

I haven't read any of these either, but I'll go with Redshirt's pick of You are your Best Thing. And it works for Task 231.

Sometimes I get excited when that happens but sometimes they take me by surprise and I have to switch up my reading plans.

All of your books are so interesting!! I would have to say “ I'm Waiting for You and Other Stories” because the premise is neat but also it had so many great reviews. I just put it on hold at my library!

Completely understand, sometimes I'll only read something I'm loving only during the weekend and then something else for my before bed or commute audiobook. Makes me feel like I'm savoring...but then usually I can't stop and seem to gobble it up and feel like I need to reread immediately ;)

Redshirt (kessa_cirtos) | 135 comments Beth, that's so relatable. Ahaha.

Judith, I, too, read many books at once. Just so I can switch to another book if I'm feeling more of a particular genre.

Cheers Snowtulip! It's exhausting when you have to make decisions all of the time. I'm happy to help contribute to your leisure/fun time!

message 249: by Truitt_T (last edited May 07, 2021 09:01PM) (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I used to only read one book at a time. Then it became one fiction, one nonfiction. And then maybe a book of essays or short stories. I started listening to audiobooks, so I'll add one of those in, too. Now with challenges and games, I'll put something aside (if I can bring myself to) to finish a more time sensitive book. Sheesh - it's gotten very out of control....

Snowtulip - You are not alone! I gobble and reread, too, lol, although I don't usually reread immediately.

message 250: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I also read a lot of books at once. I generally have a phyical fiction book and non-fiction (usually history) book on the go at the same time. Then I will also have an audiobook or two (maybe three) on the go at the same time. They will be different genres so I will listen to whichever one I feel like more at the time.
Ebooks I don't tend to read that much. I only really read them if I am travelling or I'm going places where I might have to wait a while like for trains/buses or at the doctors or something.
I also read manga so I generally have a few series on the go, but now I have discovered an obsession with audiobooks, I don't read as much manga as I used to.

So, because I read a lot a the same time, it generally takes me longer to finish books, but when I do it sometimes happens all at once.
