Hello Rob Anybody

The Librarian has the following recommended reading list for you. Please check them out at your ease. However, make sure you return them to the library on time or face the consequences.

message 103: by Cilla (last edited Apr 27, 2021 06:13AM) (new)

Cilla (cillafleig) | 252 comments I am likely to add some big page books since they will work for some other challenges I am doing.

The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan 814 pages
The Given Day (Coughlin, #1) by Dennis Lehane 736pages
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough 692 pages

I will have several days when I will have a lot of time to read. Don't you just love having to sit in waiting rooms until your appointment comes up?

They are all recommendation worthy.

It’s good to look at the bright side of things. Waiting = More time to read! 😁

I am gong to try and read a longer book every week. Fingers crossed I can maintain that schedule! LOL

message 106: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Cilla, that way you're optimizing your time during waiting hours :)

I've never read The Thornbirds but have fond memories of watching the series at my grandfather's place. A lot of tragedy happens!

I second the Ilona Andrews recommendations. Especially the Kate Daniels series if you enjoy UF. Patiently waiting for another Hugh book.

Adding The House at the Cerulean Sea since everyone seems to have read and enjoyed it.

Isn't multitasking wonderful? Yes, I will get to read bunches of pages while waiting. I hope your plans work out. Can't you see all of the points we all will be generating?

It looks like I will have a lot of time to optimize. LOL That's good though. I'll get to read. Sometimes I knit or crochet while I wait, but my shoulders are bothering me.

I did read the book ages ago and enjoyed the mini series with Rachel Ward and Richard Chamberlain. After reading the book, I am hoping to find the mini series so I can watch it again to enjoy the cast, story and scenery. It will be fun to make comparisons. I no longer remember if there were a lot of differences between the book and TV series.

I actually have a free week between team challenges. I’m giddy! LOL I decided to read books that either don’t count or don’t get many points for challenges (audio only and short books). 😁

Colleen | 238 comments I will be finishing up my two books this week then will plan out my May and be ready to go on Saturday! Hard to believe it's already here. It's gonna be lit! :)

If I start the Discworld series I'll have to go in chronological order. Does anyone know if The Colour of Magic will be a BOM? Wondering for the extra points. And - has anyone listened to these books on audio? This will be my first one so if I should start print and then go audio once familiar with the books? If there are too many characters I would probably be better off reading the print version, as well as if the story is a bit complicated, I find print easier to love - any advice appreciated!

message 116: by Rina (last edited Apr 27, 2021 01:18AM) (new)

Rina | 726 comments I've seen somewhere that mods decided not to do the first book as it is considered better to start the series with the other books.

P.S. Found it in the rules:

"Discworld BOMS
To avoid having a lot of Discworld nominations, we will have an additional BOM each month:
May - Equal Rites
June - Mort
July - Guards! Guards!
These represent the first books in three of the sub-series, and deliberately skip over the first two books which are generally agreed not to be the best introduction to the books."

Geri A few questions for our captains. For spell out tasks, do we ignoreThe, A, An? Also, for a hyphenated last name, do we use the last name after the hyphen?

Thanks!

For Spellout you can ignore The, A, An if needed and with hyphenated names it is how they appear alphabetically, which in general is the initial of the first part of the hyphenated word.

I'm more and more convinced of that too. I don't think Goodreads got the memo or they just hired a new intern...
The delays are pretty random but my notification are now 12 hrs late. Also the GR app is going crazy with notifications as well, sometimes I can't consult mine.

I find knitting and crocheting are very relaxing activities, I never got the hang of crocheting though. I'm always amazed how people get amazing creations out of it meanwhile I'm stuck with my asymmetrical shapes :) Hope your shoulders are bothering you less.

LOL I usually can’t resist signing up for multiple challenges too. 😁 But I am going to take a break this summer and only do TT. I love the flexibility of reading what I want.

Good thing I checked the countdown clock. I get to start before I go to bed on Friday. I’ll be able to get a few hours in.

I sometimes transfer my kindle from Amazon France to UK or USA depending on the deals and prices they are offering (Amazon US has also more freebies). I think you can do that with any other country.

message 143: by Cilla (new)

Cilla (cillafleig) | 252 comments Oh my, my want to read list is growing by leaps and bounds! I now have almost 2400 books. I'm not even done looking at all of the recommendations yet. These challenges are dangerous. LOL

I voted for the June BOTM. Thank you for posting the link Audrey Jane. I will be going to the library to pick up the May BOTM reads today or tomorrow.

According to the countdown, there are 12 hours and about 40 minutes before everything starts. YIKES!!!

This will be fun and I am also looking forward to Wacky Races. I must be a bit crazy.

Happy reading everyone!!!

I don’t generally do BOM’s but an very competitive and tend to do them if points are involved.

You’re thinking of wheelathon, the only deadline for this are end of the challenge. We do ask that everyone checks in at least once a week.

I'll have to look and see if I can get it from the library. I could get it on kindle but it's not my preferred reading style. (Sad considering how many books I have on kindle!)

message 150: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Rina wrote: "How do you transfer Kindle, Audrey Jane?"

I remembered the process more complicated but it's actually pretty simple (however it seems I'm only eligible to transfer to Amazon US, NL, DE, FR). I just tried it again with another freebie. Here's what I did:

- Under your account click on "Content & Devices"
- Above next to "Manage your content and devices" click on "Preferences"
- Click on "Country/Region settings"
- You will see the following text "Click here to learn more about other Amazon sites you are eligible to shop on based on your country/region of residence." Click on "here" and you will be able to see the countries where you can transfer your kindle.
- Depending on the country you choose, click on "Learn about"
- A short text will appear explaining what will happen if you transfer your device. If you're ok with that, click on the dark yellow button with the text "Transfer your account to Amazon.com"
- The following message will appear : Thank you for transferring your device to Amazon.com
You may now begin shopping for digital content at the Amazon.com Kindle Store and make purchases in US Dollars (USD).

Hope this all makes sense :) Let me know if you encounter any issue.
