Share your thoughts on homophobia and recommend books, tv shows, movies etc with M/M representation!

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 121 comments I hope that this is okay to talk about on this thread but we need to talk about the M/M representation in Riverdale. Riverdale is a really popular show that has M/M representation but it's done poorly. I love the show but they only have two gay male character that both are sidelined and don't have their own storylines. Kevin is also very much the stereotypical gay best friend and I'm getting more and more fed up with how the show makes their biggest gay character into a guy who constantly wants to hook up and can never settle down with one person. There's also no sex scenes between the M/M couple and since the show makes all the straight and lesbian characters have sex all the time, it makes me so mad. It almost feels like toxic masculinity or something is coming into play that's impacting how the gay males in the show are portrayed. It feels like these characters were thrown into the show and made gay just to check the "this is a progressive tv show" box and I hate it.

I haven't seen Riverdale but are you kidding me?? They definitely just did it to not seem homophobic but if you have gay/queer characters in a book/movie/tv show you need to represent them properly! :(

Yes, I hate it when shows, movies and books add queer characters just for the sake of representation. Side characters who are queer but ignored and undeveloped is not what we want. That's not what representation means.
