Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments Segment three
The guests arrive, now up to 150 people on the island with a bad storm brewing to hit later when they need to leave again by boat.
OLIVIA is having a panic attack, hoping Hannah can help with the full story this time, but she and Charlie are arguing.
JOHNNO denies the seaweed in the bed trick while getting into Will's spare three sizes too small suit. He wasn't actually asked to be best man... assumed from school days promise.
JULES asks her father's opinion of Will before walking down the aisle. Does not go well, vases are destroyed.
JOHNNO is confronted by (headmaster) Will's dad over a school break-in for exam papers he had been blamed for. Piers (Will's producer) unwittingly lets the cat out of the bag on how Johnno was excluded by Will alone from the tv show that was Johnno's idea.
Will's allusions about something that happened at school as an "accident" is rebuffed by Johnno.
OLIVIA barely manages the ceremony, cuts herself on the shore and goes into the water. She is rescued by Will. Jules is livid, no sympathy.
HANNAH tells Olivia of the parallels of her sadness and depression to Hannah's sister Alice seventeen years ago. Doesn't share she killed herself.
AOIFE also has a parallel tragedy to mourn.
--------
NOW - The Wedding Night [66% in]
Chaos among the four groomsmen, Freddy comes to warn them to go back, not safe - in his hand, only a torch. Arguments over staying out or returning, then realize Pete (who was stoned)has disappeared.
--------
JULES in the marquee post wedding toasts - her Dad, suppressed feelings against Will. Will's speech about when they met is only half the story. He had been "Stephen" to Olivia first, pretending never met her.
HANNAH a gulf between her, and an increasingly drunk Charlie is widening.
JOHNNO's speech is cutting and full of pain. Will insisted he have an expensive suit then left Johnno with the bill he could never afford. Johnno has planned a survival stunt for the groomsmen to carry Will out, bound and blindfolded to the whispering cave and dropped 'survival-style'. Johnno's whiskey is fake, he had been fired and is broke and bitter over their secret which he can't forget.
HANNAH Charlie even more drunk and out of control tells of a cruel hazing during the stag weekend that devastated him, orchestrated by Will, shares he is jealous of Hannah admiring Will. Stung, Hannah gets him to admit he has had sex with Jules right after their child was born. This does not go over well. [Understatement]

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9502 comments I started reading your posts, hoping I had fully read the section. Well, almost, hadn't read of Charlie's devastating revelation about the hazing and sex with Jules (not surprising, but the when of it was). Can't wait to read it unfold, and your understatement comment is a tease!
Johnno's behavior and confessional best man speech were riveting. His discovery of Will's betrayal was a powerful plot twist. Will is not a very nice man!!
I was confused over "Stephen." Is that the guy Olivia got pregnant by? I thought that's guys name was something else, but I may not have caught it right. That was another shocking twist, that she knew Will before he was introduced as Jules' fiance. The plot twist really picked up in this section. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments Carol, yes! Books without numbered chapters are hard to coordinate aren't they.. I was trying to stick to chapter ends and as close to 25% of the book as I could to break.
Olivia's story was bigger by far than I expected with the "Stephen" twist. I re-read to summarize and generally stopped before going any further to write them so I believe it was probably mentioned in the book up to this point, but I don't remember when it was revealed her prior creep boyfriend was called Stephen.
Charlie and Jules with that timing shocked me too. He seemed pretty nice on the boat over...

Especially when I was thinking how nice Will was to stay devoted to his childhood best friend...even though he didn't fit the mold of all his other prep school friends.

Ann, if I had a thousand dollars for every time I said to myself "you should have just said something when it happened!!!" (Jules' note, Charlie's indiscretion) I would be a wealthy woman!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments Carol: Yes, yes. If only the characters would listen to us. Lol

yes, it was briefly Will's saving grace that he was loyal to Johnno who seemed like such a loser compared to Will.

Heather Getsie (hgetsie) | 11 comments I'm listening on audio and I'm at 60%. I have a few predictions: that Will was the one that told the producers they didn't want Johno. I'm hoping I'm not correct about this one, but that Charlie cheated on his wife at the stag/bachelor party. He's been particularly bitchy towards his wife and I just want to hug Hannah.

I just finished the chapter where Olivia thinks she's drowning, so I'm going back to listen more! I hope she's not the body that the waiter screamed about in the "now" chapters.

Heather Getsie (hgetsie) | 11 comments This is a wild ride! Thank goodness the Olivia in the ocean was resolved quickly in the next chapter. My heart is breaking for Olivia and Hannah. I just want to hug them both. I hope Olivia doesn't turn the route of Hannah's sister though.

And I was right about Will lying to Johno about the producers not wanting him. That's going to come back around to Will.

Heather Getsie (hgetsie) | 11 comments I just got to about 74% and just finished the chapter with Johno calling Will out on his shit. And the chapter before with Hannah watching the best man's speech - I think she's going to figure out the story that Olivia and Will told about going into the cab and the guy going back into the event are the same story!! And we still haven't figured out who they're talking about in the "now" chapters?! Is it Will??

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9502 comments Heather, I did not guess that Will sandbagged Johnno on the TV show. That was the worst. What a betrayal.
