Alina | 58 comments Violet, Klaus and Sunny have moved back into the city where they were born. Mr. Poe takes them to 667 Dark Avenue, where aqueous martinis are in, orphans are in, elevators are out, dark is in and light is out, Stairs are in, Pinstripe suits are in. Well, you get the picture. The orphans meet Esme Gigi Geniveve Squalor, the city’s sixth most important financial advisor, and her husband Jerome Squalor. The orphans soon learn what’s in and what’s out, that Jerome doesn’t like to argue with Esme, and that it’s easy to get lost in their seventy-one-bedroom penthouse. Klaus gets a bedroom with a library next to it, Violet gets a bedroom with a workbench in it, and Sunny gets a bedroom it between the two with lots of things to bite, even if their soft. Even though the orphans are worried about the Quagmires being with Count Olaf, Things are starting to look up for them and they start to relax a bit. Until, Gunther shows up that is. Gunther is the auctioneer for the In Auction or at least that what he wants people to think. Violet, Klaus and Sunny try telling Esme and Jerome about Gunther and who he really is, but Esme doesn’t seem to pay attention to them and Jerome tells them that they shouldn’t be worried about Count Olaf because if he stepped foot into the building, the doorman would have caught him and called the police. The orphans are on their own to prove that Gunther is really Count Olaf to their guardians, going though plans in their heads like searching the entire penthouse for Gunther to see if he is staying in one of the rooms, searching the floor and doors of the apartment complex, finding out about the ersatz elevator, making an ersatz rope, climbing down it to find the Quagmires, climbing back up to create a way to get them out of the metal cage, climbing back down again, finding out the Quagmires are gone, climbing back up again, storing the ersatz rope, and telling Esme what the found. But, like in every story, the orphans are about to get the surprise of there lives. Can Violet, Klaus, and Sunny save the Quagmires or will they be fooled by a red herring ?

I have seen the Netflix series for this series. Spoiler Alert! In the show, The Baudelaires think that Count Olaf is killing to kill Jerome so that he can marry Esme and become their legal guardian again, Olivia tries to convince Mr. Poe about Olaf’s scheme, which leads to Jacquelyn to contact Jacques, who enlists Olivia into their society, Larry works at Café Salmonella, Jacques and Olivia search the Squalor’s building for the Quagmires, Olaf and his troop create a café and Jacquelyn and Larry hold him back by making Count Olaf sing a song about himself, The Baudelaires make a parachute, They turn the parachute into a hot air balloon to get back up the shaft. These events are switched from the events that happened in the books. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Rate: 5 out of 5 stars.
