So basically I have a silly amount of audible credits that I would like to try and use up but because I use the library so much/read a lot of books in general I'm having a tough time finding books to spend my credits on.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for good audiobooks that people think I might like based on my preferences below. I read ebook/physical books as well but because this is about using my audible credits I'm really only looking for suggestions where you've listened to the audiobook and know it's good/well produced.

Most of my reading is either mystery/suspense or fantasy/sci-fi with a preference for NA/adult books. I'm open to pretty much anything within either genre but domestic thrillers are probably near the bottom of my list. I also like rom-coms/historical fiction/romance and honestly read a very wide range of books from any age range/genre (I also read YA/middlegrade books just not quite as much anymore) The only books I don't really read a lot of are westerns/non-fiction/gore-y horror. I'm still willing to try something from one of these genres it's just less likely to be my thing.

Some of my favourite tropes:
- found family
- fairy tale/fable/etc inspired
- enemies to lovers (but nothing super toxic)
- heists
- fake dating

I'm also going to list some of my favourites from different genres just to give an idea of what I normally like.

Fantasy/Sci-fi:
The Lies of Locke Lamora, The City of Brass, Uprooted, The Thief, Illuminae, Sleeping Giants, The Kiss of Deception, The Winner's Curse, Into the Drowning Deep, The Trials of Morrigan Crow
Mystery:
And Then There Were None, The Westing Game, The Naturals, Home Before Dark, Now You See Me
Historical Fiction:
All the Light We Cannot See, Before We Were Yours, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, Between Shades of Gray, The Song of Achilles,
Other:
The Secret History, I'll Give You the Sun, Red, White & Royal Blue, Daisy Jones & The Six, If We Were Villains, The Deal, Rules for Being a Girl, Love From A to Z

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 540 comments I'll listen to pretty much anything narrated by Joe Jameson. For historical fiction, try The Charioteer, by Mary Renault; for fake dating try Boyfriend Material, by Alexis Hall; for fantasy, Spellslinger, by Sebastien de Castell; for mystery, Lie in Wait, by G.J. Minett. Trouble, by Non Pratt, provides a sort of young adult fake dating/mystery crossover.

Marie (marie123) | 50 comments You mentioned a Mira Grant book (Into the Drowning Deep) she also writes under Seanan McGuire and the October Daye series is amazing. Rosemary and Rue is the first book. Definitely has some fairytale elements, and if you get into the series it has found family and enemies to lovers. I listened to the whole series on audible and enjoyed.

The Hating Game is a romance I listened to through audio and was good, enemies to lovers

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune was amazing in audio as well, and I would consider found family and fairy tale inspired.

Erika | 22 comments @Kris - thank you! Neverwhere was one of my favourite books in high school but I never read the graveyard book so I'm going to check that one out.

@Robert - oooh so many good options! out of those ones I've only heard of Boyfriend Material so I'll be checking these out. Lie in wait and Trouble seem especially interesting

@Marie - I think this is the sign I needed to buy The house in the cerulean sea instead of waiting for my library hold to come up because I swear I've been on hold for this book forever. I'm going to check out the October Daye books as well, I've heard of them in passing but never really looked into them so I don't know much about them

Thanks to everyone so far! And if people have other suggestions I'm still looking!

Erika | 22 comments @cats I've read and enjoyed all of those books except for aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe so I think I'm going to pick that one up as well.

I've used enough of my credits now that I'm no longer in danger of losing any but I'm going to keep this open for a little bit longer because I still have a couple of left and would love to see if I get anymore suggestions. Thanks!

Hannah | 47 comments You probably shouldn't use a credit on this, because it's a novella so it might not be worth the credit. But I was reminded last night how great the audiobook of Emergency Skin is. It's read by Jason Isaacs and is just over an hour long.

Oh man I somehow totally missed this recommendation. I've never read any N.K. Jemisin (most intimidating author tbh) but I keep wanting to so this seems like a good way to try it out. I ended up buying the whole collection instead of just the one to get a little more value out of my credit and I'm looking forward to it!

Also I have somehow once again hit 5 credits so if anyone else has any suggestions I will take them!

DeAja (dkg20) | 48 comments Pride by Ibi Zoboi (YA remix of Pride and Prejudice). It’s narrated by fellow YA author Elizabeth Acevedo

Daisy (daisyporter) | 1200 comments The Angie Thomas books, read by Banhi Turpin, are terrific. I recommend all of them, but On the Come Up is especially good on audio because of the music theme.

Jeff B. | 7 comments I'm just chiming in to say that if you have Amazon Prime, you can read and/or listen to Emergency Skin (and the other forward collection stories) for free. Just go to the kindle version and there will be an option to "Read and Listen for free". You're basically checking it out. I really enjoyed Emergency Skin.
